In Chapter 1675 of *Married at First Sight*, Mrs. Lewis swayed, and her two daughters-in-law rushed to support her.
“Mom,” they exclaimed, filled with concern.
“It’s a good sign that Duncan’s life is not in danger; he will recover slowly,” Mrs. Lewis reassured herself.
With regret, she pounded her chest and lamented, “It’s all my fault. I’m the one who harmed Duncan. Why did the car accident have to happen? I wish it had been me instead.”
“Mom, Duncan will be okay. The doctor said he will recover,” the older Young Master Lewis comforted his mother.
Mr. Lewis, with a serious expression, addressed his son and daughter-in-law: “You should go back to rest. Duncan is here with me.”
“I won’t leave. I’m waiting for Duncan to come out, and I’ll take care of him,” Mrs. Lewis insisted, refusing to go.
Duncan’s surgery was complete, but he had yet to be released, heightening her worries.
Her son’s misfortune stemmed from her being overly protective as a mother; how could she possibly leave?
Everyone heard Mrs. Lewis’s self-reproachful words, prompting Zachary and the others to seek clarity on how the accident occurred.
Observing the sorrowful expressions of the Lewis family, Zachary and the others decided to hold off on their inquiries for the moment.
Once Duncan was pushed out by the medical staff and transferred to the ward, Zachary and Josh approached Mr. Lewis for answers.
Mr. Lewis glanced at Mrs. Lewis, who was sobbing beside the hospital bed, sighed, and said softly to Zachary and Josh, “Let’s step outside to talk.”
As Mr. Lewis turned to leave, he noticed Liberty holding her son and Serenity together. Upon entering, he paused and pleaded with Liberty, “Miss Hunt, could you please stay here until Duncan wakes up?”
He believed that seeing her would bring his son comfort when he regained consciousness.
“Liberty,” she said softly, “I will, Uncle Duncan.” Mr. Lewis expressed his gratitude. Liberty quickly replied, “Uncle, there’s no need to thank me; Mr. Lewis and I are friends too.” After observing Liberty for a moment, Mr. Lewis exited the ward in silence. Zachary and Josh followed him and saw that he had reached the end of the corridor. He had already taken out a cigarette, lit it, and was smoking. As the two approached, Mr. Lewis offered each of them a cigarette. They accepted but did not smoke. Although Zachary could smoke, he rarely did so because Serenity disliked the smell of tobacco.
