Chapter 1639
“Mom, I’m at our family’s hotel now, in private room number 23.”
Elisa felt compelled to inform her mother of her presence at the hotel.
After a brief silence, Mrs. Stone inquired, “Are you dining with Mr. Johnson?”
“Yes,” Elisa replied honestly.
Despite her family’s disapproval of her relationship with Remy, she chose to disregard their opinions. Being with him brought her joy.
For her, happiness was the most vital aspect of life.
If being with Remy made her happy, why shouldn’t she date him?
“We just arrived and haven’t ordered yet. Why don’t Remy and I join you and Mr. Reading for dinner?”
Mrs. Stone pursed her lips and replied, “I’ll come to you.”
She hung up immediately after.
Elisa looked at Remy while holding her phone. “My mom wants to treat Mr. Reading to a meal and would like us to join them. She’ll be here soon, so let’s wait before ordering.”
Elisa was aware of the signature dishes offered at her family’s hotel.
Remy smiled. “Alright.”
He anticipated that Mrs. Stone would be both annoying and stressful.
Mr. Reading was the rival that Mrs. Stone had orchestrated for him. Although the Readings typically led quiet lives, they were connected to Tania Reading’s family. Andrew and Zachary were also cousins. Both the Readings and Stones held equal social standing.
Being personally selected and set up with Elisa by Mrs. Stone indicated that Andrew was indeed an impressive individual.
Noticing Remy’s quick agreement, Elisa wanted to express her thoughts but hesitated.
“Elisa, feel free to share what’s on your mind,” Remy encouraged gently.
“From what I gather, my mom is trying to match me with Mr. Reading. I didn’t realize it the first time, but it makes sense now why she has been praising him so much.”
In front of me, I just realized my mom’s intentions. Remy spoke softly, “I know. I sensed it the first time I saw Mr. Reading and heard Mrs. Stone praise him so much.” To confirm his suspicions, he even called Zachary to inquire about Andrew’s relationship status, which he learned was single and without a girlfriend. Zachary laughed at him for treating everyone as if they were rivals. Remy believed it was better to consider everyone an enemy than to overlook a potential competitor.
He had yet to earn the Stones’ approval. While Elisa could be opinionated and headstrong, she was still a dutiful daughter. If Mrs. Stone insisted that Elisa date Andrew, she would likely comply. That was why, upon seeing Elisa send Andrew off, Remy immediately viewed him as a love rival.
Zachary was fortunate to have Grandma May orchestrating everything for him; he quickly obtained his marriage license and faced no competition for his wife, leaving him puzzled about Remy’s anxiety. Elisa was left speechless.
The first time Remy encountered Andrew was when she saw him off. She recalled that Remy hadn’t even spoken to Andrew, yet he still regarded him as a rival in love. “Elisa, no matter how many suitors you have, I won’t back down. It’s a fair competition, which only proves you’re a wonderful person,” he declared. Although Remy felt pressure, he didn’t let it show on his face and instead reassured Elisa not to worry. He trusted his instincts and ability to read people.
