Married at First Sight Chapter 1623

Chapter 1623
Duncan felt embarrassed by Sonny’s comments, and Liberty shared the same sentiment.
She directed her gaze toward Duncan.
Duncan responded with a grin.
Liberty found herself at a loss for words. She remained silent, contemplating how to respond to her son’s question.
“Mom.”
Sonny’s innocent voice echoed once more.
“Mommy, do you disagree?”
“Sonny.”
Liberty replied gently, “You already have a father. Dunc is your uncle, and he will always be your uncle.”
“Liberty.”
Duncan addressed her.
“Mr. Lewis, Sonny is still too young and impressionable. Please refrain from saying such things to him. He shouldn’t be involved in decisions about my life.”
Liberty spoke with a serious tone.
Duncan responded with regret, “Liberty, I apologize. I shouldn’t have brought this up with Sonny at this time. However, my feelings for you are genuine. I truly care for Sonny and will treat him as if he were my own son.”
“Mr. Lewis, as I mentioned, I’m not looking to enter a relationship right now.”
Liberty said calmly, “Mr. Lewis, I hope you can understand. I also hope you will let this go. We are not a suitable match for each other.”
Mrs. Lewis would still oppose Liberty, even if she reluctantly accepted her son’s connection to her. Their disagreements would likely persist even after Liberty married into the family.
Liberty could not change her background.
Furthermore, she had no intention of remarrying.
As she had conveyed to Old Mrs. York, she believed that marriage had not brought her happiness. Instead, she had only experienced pain and sorrow. Despite her devotion and sacrifices, she had faced betrayal.
Having already endured difficulties in marriage, why would she want to get entangled again now that she had finally found peace?

escape?”

She was still capable of surviving on her own at this point, without a man.

“Why aren’t we a suitable match for each other, Liberty? What did my mom tell you? Did she pressure you to stay away from me?”

“Mrs. Lewis didn’t say much. It’s my own belief that we’re not a good match. Mr. Lewis, I appreciate your kindness, but I don’t love you. I can’t accept you, just as you can’t accept Ms. Harmon.”

Duncan opened his mouth, but he was at a loss for words.

He lacked the smoothness of Josh. When faced with the woman he loved, his ability to articulate his thoughts diminished. He could never find the right words to express himself effectively.

He had taken the most straightforward approach to tell Liberty that he loved her and was pursuing her. He made it clear that he was serious about marrying her and not playing games with her feelings.

“Mr. Lewis, thank you for looking after Sonny. I’ll take him home now.”

As she spoke, Liberty picked up her son and began to walk away.

She headed toward her e-bike, secured her son in the front seat, and rode off from the mall.

Duncan didn’t stop her or follow her. He stood there, frozen, silently watching as Liberty disappeared into the night. Their figures soon faded into the darkness.

Once Liberty returned to her rented house with her son, she took the car keys and held Sonny’s hand. “Sonny, I’m taking you to Aunt Ser’s house.”

“Mom.”

Sonny, only three years old, didn’t grasp most adult conversations, but he could read people’s expressions.

His mother looked unhappy.

He hugged Liberty’s leg and looked up at her, fear shining in his dark eyes. He was worried that he had upset her.

“Mom, did I…

“Did I do something wrong?” the child asked, filled with fear.

Liberty crouched down and embraced her son, then released him.

“Sonny, you didn’t do anything wrong,” she said softly. “You’re right; you already have a father. We shouldn’t be greedy. You shouldn’t have two fathers.”

“But you seemed unhappy after I asked you that question, and you didn’t seem friendly to Dunc. Mom, I like Dunc, but he’s not my father.”

Sonny already had a father.
