Married at First Sight Chapter 1619

Chapter 1619
“Mrs. Lewis, is there anything else? If not, I’ll take my leave. Sonny is still at the mall, and I need to pick him up.”
Deep down, Liberty felt a twinge of bitterness.
She had never considered a relationship with Duncan. Yet, faced with Mrs. Lewis’s request, it was only natural for her to feel this way.
Liberty had merely rented Duncan’s store. Although Duncan was good friends with Zachary and had provided her considerable assistance, she had always treated him with enthusiasm without ever contemplating a romantic relationship. Now, she felt compelled to leave.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, so why should she have to go?
“You may leave now. Please be careful on the road; there’s heavy traffic,” Mrs. Lewis said with feigned gentleness.
Liberty took the key to her e-bike and bid Mrs. Lewis farewell before standing up and exiting.
Shortly after Liberty’s departure, Derek walked in.
Noticing his wife sitting in a corner, he approached her.
“How did the conversation go? It ended so quickly?”
Derek observed Liberty leaving with an expression he couldn’t quite understand.
He had no insight into the discussion between the two women.
“I told her what I needed to say, and our conversation concluded just like that. It didn’t go well. She’s as stubborn as your son and doesn’t see it as her problem…” After pausing for a moment, she added, “Though I suppose it’s true that it isn’t her problem.”
She sighed deeply before recounting the details of her conversation with Liberty to her husband.
Finally, she stated, “Liberty assured me that she wouldn’t marry into our family if I disagreed.”
“Darling, do you think Liberty is being clever? If she refuses to marry into our family at my objection, it’ll cause a rift between Duncan and me. This will affect my…”

“Relationship with Duncan.”

“You disapprove of their relationship anyway. Duncan and you are always in conflict. It’s not Liberty’s fault.”

Mrs. Lewis gasped.

Indeed, she had never approved of Duncan and Liberty’s relationship. However, after Liberty made her promise, Mrs. Lewis felt manipulated. It wouldn’t be accurate to say that Liberty was scheming against her, but it certainly didn’t sit right with Mrs. Lewis.

“Darling, why don’t we take action against our son? Let’s see if we can relocate the main office of Lewis & Co. to another city.”

Derek replied, “Do you think Duncan has just started his company? Lewis & Co. is now one of the top five corporations. His net worth is currently in the tens of billions of dollars, and in a few years, it might surpass our family’s wealth.”

“Moreover, Lewis & Co. and York Corporation have been collaborating closely. Do you really think you can take on Lewis & Co.? Duncan and Josh are good friends. You know the Buchams’ background, right? If Duncan discovers that we are plotting against him to prevent him from pursuing Liberty, what do you think will happen? Have you considered all of this?”

“He might turn against me. Duncan may appear rough and casual, but he’s the type who holds a grudge.”

“Since none of these methods will work, should I just sit back and watch Duncan pursue Liberty, eventually letting her become part of our family?”

Derek responded, “Liberty has made a promise to you, hasn’t she? As long as you disapprove, she definitely won’t marry into our family. You should be firm and let your son remain single.”

Mrs. Lewis was at a loss for words.

She couldn’t bear the thought of her son pursuing Liberty.

Yet, she also found it difficult to be harsh and disapprove of her son’s choices.

You have a lifelong connection with Liberty. Parents often tend to be the first to give in during conflicts with their children. “I’ve mentioned before that meeting Liberty won’t resolve anything. The issue is with your son. Even if you support Duncan’s relationship with Liberty, she won’t reciprocate his feelings because she doesn’t love him. In fact, Liberty isn’t even interested in your son!”
