“Alright, I’ll invite him over for a meal so you can express your gratitude properly. The whole family is thankful, so there’s no need to excessively praise him, Mom.”
“He saved me, so why shouldn’t I praise him? Besides, he’s a wonderful man. It’s just that the Readings have always kept a low profile and don’t attend high-society events, which is why they’re not well-known,” Mrs. Stone replied.
The Readings believed that Tania would naturally attract attention after marrying into the Yorks—the wealthiest family—and becoming the head of the household. As her maiden family, they felt the need to remain low-key to avoid causing her any trouble.
“I wouldn’t even have noticed the Readings if Mr. Reading hadn’t helped you today, Mom. It seems like Zachary and his cousins don’t interact much,” Elisa observed.
“How would you know if they do?”
Elisa was left speechless. In the past, Zachary wouldn’t even meet her gaze, let alone speak to her.
Elisa learned to move on and wished Zachary and Serenity well. After all, Serenity was the daughter of her little aunt, making them cousins. When Zachary referred to Elisa as his cousin for Serenity’s sake, their interactions increased slightly.
Indeed, Elisa had no way of knowing how much Zachary interacted with his relatives.
“Madam, Mr. Johnson has arrived.”
A maid ushered Remy into the house.
Mrs. Stone had just been praising Andrew, but upon hearing Remy’s arrival, her smile vanished, and her expression turned serious.
Elisa studied Remy and realized he was carrying many supplements. No wonder he hadn’t come in to visit her mom when he heard about her sprained ankle; he didn’t want to arrive empty-handed.
Remy was thoughtful; he truly valued Elisa.
This was the reason he held her family in such high regard. “Mrs. Stone, I heard from Elisa that you sprained your foot, so I came to check on you.” Remy stepped forward with the supplements, and Elisa stood up to take them from him. “You could have just visited. Why did you bring so many things?” “They’re for your mom’s recovery,” Remy replied with a warm smile. Elisa placed the items he brought in front of her mother. “Mom, Remy brought a lot of supplements for you.” Mrs. Stone pursed her lips and thanked Remy coolly, “Mr. Johnson, you’re too kind.”
