Married at First Sight Chapter 1566

Chapter 1566
“Dunc.”
Sonny tugged on the kite string as he walked toward Duncan.
Duncan smiled and pulled Sonny into his embrace, taking hold of the kite string for him. He asked, “Are you happy?”
“Yeah. Row said he’d take me to the children’s playground later,”
This was Sonny’s second visit to Wildridge Manor. He remembered that his uncle’s house had a large playground for kids that was a lot of fun.
Duncan replied affectionately, “I can take you there too.”
“Dunc, you’re an adult while Row isn’t yet. I’d be happier if he comes with me.”
Adults were not as playful as children.
The little boy understood this difference very well.
Duncan stroked Sonny’s head and smiled, “So, Sonny, now that you have Row, you don’t want me anymore, huh?”
Sonny pouted, “You only know how to stack blocks, Dunc.”
Duncan was left speechless.
He cared for Sonny but recognized that he wasn’t doing a good job of entertaining him, especially since he had never felt this way about a child before knowing Sonny.
“Sonny, come here! Let’s see whose kite can fly higher!” Rowan called out after successfully launching his kite.
Sonny eagerly pulled his kite and ran toward Rowan.
Duncan smiled and watched them.
He began to consider expanding the villa where he lived and adding a playground so Sonny could enjoy it in the future.
When Zachary and Serenity saw this, they chose not to interrupt the kite flying. Instead, the couple strolled hand in hand along a wooded path.
No one would be foolish enough to disturb the loving couple.
“Zachary.”
Zachary turned to face Serenity.
Serenity continued, “Nana told me about my responsibilities. I thought there would only be a few stores, but I was…

I was taken aback when I saw the accounts. The few bookshelves were filled with account books. “Does every woman in your family manage these?” I asked.

Zachary chuckled and replied, “Not quite. Only the head missus oversees these. They are public records that belong to the entire family, with some pertaining to our small family. I’ll gradually explain our small family’s businesses to you as you become more familiar with everything.”

Serenity said, “I thought you were in charge of all the profitable ventures…”

“I oversee the larger businesses, while you handle the smaller ones,” he clarified.

Serenity was left speechless. “There are so many account books, yet you refer to them as small businesses?”

“They are small in comparison to what York Corporation manages. If the shops are self-operated, they might only earn a few hundred thousand dollars a year, at most reaching over a million. Those that aren’t self-operated are rented out, bringing in monthly rents of about $8,000 to $10,000, totaling roughly $100,000 annually.”

“Chain stores earn a bit more, but they pale in comparison to York Corporation. These small businesses are yours to manage. The income will primarily cover internal expenses, so consider it your allowance as my wife.”

The notion of an allowance was surprising.

While the earnings from each store may not seem significant to Zachary, the York family owned numerous stores. As Serenity pointed out, the many account books on the few large shelves indicated substantial amounts of money.

The rent collected each month alone represented a sum that many ordinary people could not hope to earn in a lifetime.
