“Have you arrived? Would you like me to arrange for someone to pick you up?”
Camryn had a strong impression of Dalton’s girlfriend. Although they had only spent a brief time together and his girlfriend was somewhat cautious around her, Camryn genuinely considered her a future sister-in-law.
Dalton chuckled. “No need for that. We arrived last night and are staying at a hotel. We just finished breakfast and are on our way to your store now.”
“You didn’t mention you arrived last night.”
“You were at Mr. Bucham’s wedding, so I didn’t want to disturb you. I’ll drive over now. See you soon. Your sister-in-law brought you plenty of local specialties.”
Camryn smiled. “I’m looking forward to it. See you soon.”
After ending the call, Callum asked, “Was that Mitchell again?”
“You have sharp ears; why ask?”
Camryn replied calmly, “Dal brought his girlfriend here to celebrate the holidays with me.”
“He has a girlfriend?”
“He has always had a girlfriend. They’ve been dating for a few years and are expected to get married soon.” She added, “Dal and I are like siblings. Although we’re not related by blood, I’ve always thought of him as my older brother, and he treats me like his younger sister.”
Callum thought to himself, ‘Dalton has feelings for you. You’re the only one who doesn’t see him that way.’
Upon returning to Spring Blossoms, Dalton and his girlfriend, Melissa, were waiting inside the store.
Dalton showed no surprise when he saw Callum’s Maybach.
Callum assisted Camryn out of the car.
Dalton stepped out of the store with Melissa. When she observed how gentle and considerate Callum was toward Camryn, she began to infer the nature of their relationship.
Camryn’s smile grew more genuine as she hesitated to ask. Callum held her hand firmly as they faced Dalton together.
“Dal,” he said.
Camryn attempted to free herself from Callum’s grasp but was unsuccessful. He held on tightly, refusing to let go. After two failed attempts, she surrendered and allowed him to keep holding her hand.
Despite having told him that Dalton was like a brother to her, Callum still felt the need to assert his dominance in front of Dalton. Wait—she hadn’t agreed to be with him. She was not his girlfriend. Why was he trying to assert control?
Even though Dalton had brought his girlfriend along, Callum remained envious of him. He stared at Dalton for a long moment before finally smiling and saying warmly, “Camryn mentioned that you’re like a brother to her, so from now on, I’ll follow her lead and call you Dal too.”
Callum used Camryn’s nickname for Dalton.
Dalton’s gaze fell on Callum’s large hand tightly gripping Camryn’s. With a faint smile, he asked, “What’s your relationship with Cam now, Mr. York?”
Callum bristled at Dalton referring to Camryn as “Cam.”
Tension filled the air between the two men.
“Dalton, let’s go inside the store first. Everyone is watching,” Melissa suggested to her boyfriend. She then turned to Camryn, saying, “Come, Camryn. I’ll help you inside.” She reached out and took Camryn’s other hand, easily freeing her from Callum’s hold.
