Camryn’s brother and his wife never cared for her, showing little interest in her marriage. Consequently, Camryn had been living like an invisible member of the family, as no one would typically consider marrying her; she offered them no advantage. Her aunts were aware that she didn’t even have a boyfriend. A wealthy man wouldn’t choose to marry her, and a regular person would likely look down on her for being blind. Additionally, marrying her would mean taking on the responsibility of caring for her, so who would be inclined to marry her?
“Mr. York.”
Camryn wanted to deny being Callum’s fiancée. However, Callum reached out and pressed his hand over her mouth to silence her.
“Camryn, I have long viewed you as my wife. Although you haven’t accepted my advances, I believe that one day you will.”
“Mr. York? Is he from the York family?”
Camryn’s aunts exchanged incredulous glances, unable to fathom that a York had taken an interest in Camryn. They only knew that she was acquainted with Mrs. York, who was quite protective of her, which left their brother and his wife feeling humbled.
“You’re from the York family?”
Callum responded coolly, “I’m the second among my brothers.”
“When did this blind girl become your fiancée, Mr. York? What do you see in her? She’s completely blind! Do you understand what that means? She can’t see anything at all, and yet you’re interested in her?!”
“Mr. York, if you’re looking for a girlfriend, I can introduce you to my daughter. She’s younger and prettier than this blind girl. Most importantly, she’s healthy and has big, bright eyes.”
Aunt Brenda, undeterred, pushed hard to promote her daughter.
Aunt Amy, not wanting to be outdone, added, “My daughter has just turned twenty. Her face is full of youth, and she’s beautiful. Plus, she’s in perfect health.”
In every way, she is far superior to this blind girl. “Mr. York, this blind girl is not worthy of you. You are a York. Why should you compromise and marry someone who is blind?”
