Chapter 1500
Camryn spoke softly.
The nanny inquired from across the board, “Ms. Camryn, are you dating Mr. York?”
“What does it matter to you?”
The nanny was taken aback.
After a brief pause, she smiled awkwardly. “Ms. Camryn, Mrs. Newman and Ms. Carrie were around before; they didn’t like you and often targeted you. We were hired by Mrs. Newman, so even if we sympathized with you, we couldn’t openly help you.”
“You know I’ve never done anything to harm you. I just don’t usually pay much attention to you.”
If she didn’t pay attention to Camryn, then she wouldn’t have needed to hurt her.
The nanny was neither entirely good nor entirely evil.
“Mrs. Newman and Ms. Carrie have been arrested; Mrs. Newman will likely receive a severe sentence, but Ms. Carrie will be out in a few years. She has always been against you. What will you do when she is released?”
“Mr. York is quite admirable. Most importantly, his family is influential. If you and Mr. York become a couple, make sure to hold onto him tightly. As long as you marry into the York family, you won’t have to worry about Ms. Carrie seeking revenge when she gets out.”
Camryn chose to ignore her.
The nanny had said a lot but received no response, so she fell silent.
Camryn then received a call from Dalton, who asked if she and Callum were okay.
“I’m fine. He came to apologize and left after helping me into the house.”
Dalton felt relieved and chatted a little longer before ending the call.
The night passed in silence.
The next morning at dawn, Zachary was awakened by his cellphone.
He was extremely irritated.
Fumbling for his phone, he answered without looking at the screen, his voice cold, “This better be important!”
Callum replied cautiously, “It’s me,
“Zachary.”
Zachary felt an urge to hang up the phone as soon as he recognized Callum’s voice.
Why was he calling so early in the morning?
“Don’t hang up. I’m on the first floor of your house. Are you coming downstairs, or should I go upstairs and knock on the door? I don’t want to wake Serenity.”
Zachary’s expression darkened as he glanced at his wife, who was still asleep beside him.
He couldn’t let his brother’s knocking disturb her.
“Wait there,” he replied quietly.
Callum flashed a hopeful smile. “Okay.”
A few minutes later, Zachary sat across from his brother, his mood grim.
“What do you want? Can’t you see the time? Why would you wake me up at dawn? If you weren’t my brother, I would’ve beaten you up.”
Callum offered an apologetic smile.
“What time will Serenity wake up? I… I still want her to put in a good word for me with Camryn.”
“Callum York, do you need a spanking? Why are you bothering your sister-in-law with something so trivial? Even if you must disturb her, can’t you wait until after nine?”
Callum maintained his apologetic expression. “I–It’s just my first time. I haven’t experienced this before, and I feel insecure. Zachary, how were you able to stay angry at Serenity and ignore her for days?
“Now that Camryn is cold towards me, I can’t handle it. I feel anxious if she doesn’t forgive me.”
Zachary shot him a glare.
Callum wisely chose to stay silent.
“If you’re anxious, that’s your problem. If you can’t even resolve a minor conflict, I suggest you tell Nana you’ve chosen to be a bachelor for life.”
In the past, everyone used to laugh at him, thinking he had low emotional intelligence.
Now that it was
As Callum took his turn, Zachary sensed that his cousin’s emotional intelligence (EQ) was only slightly higher.
