Chapter 1497
“Okay, drive safely,” Camryn said softly.
Dalton hummed in response and watched her exit the car. She walked to the villa’s gate, retrieved her key, and slowly unlocked the side door.
Anyone observing Camryn in this moment would assume she was an ordinary person.
They would never guess that she was blind.
In familiar surroundings, she could navigate life like anyone else.
Dalton continued to watch as she unlocked and pushed the door open before departing.
At that moment, he noticed Callum approaching.
Dalton instinctively wanted to slam on the brakes, but he was driving too fast. By the time he clearly saw Callum, his car had already passed him.
He decided not to brake.
In the rearview mirror, he saw Callum walking toward the Newman family villa.
Did Callum see him drop Camryn off?
If he did, there was nothing he could do about it.
Callum had already misunderstood their relationship, and Camryn was reluctant to clarify it. Dalton also had no intention of revealing his true identity, so he considered this an opportunity to gauge whether Callum genuinely cared for Camryn or was simply seeking novelty.
Camryn was unaware that Callum had arrived.
As she pushed open the villa door, she startled the servants inside, who came out to greet her.
A maid approached her.
Camryn hummed in acknowledgment.
The maid began to close the front door but noticed Callum approaching. She turned to Camryn and said, “Ms. Camryn, Mr. York is here.”
Camryn paused for a moment before calmly responding, “It’s very late now. Please ask Mr. York to leave. We can discuss whatever he needs to say tomorrow.”
With that, she stepped into the house.
Callum heard her words but chose to ignore them. He walked inside before the maid could shut the door.
When the maid noticed this, she quietly closed the door and left. Now, only Ms. Camryn and Mr. Trenton remained. Although Mr. Trenton was still in school, he would return home this weekend. The servants of the Newman family were all hired by Mrs. Newman and typically aligned themselves with her and Carrie, following their orders and often participating in the bullying of Camryn.
Now, with only Camryn left in the family, the servants’ attitudes towards her shifted. Despite her blindness, she was still their master, and they no longer dared to ignore her as they had before. Their ability to stay employed likely depended on Camryn’s decisions.
However, some had different opinions. Mr. Trenton was preparing for his entrance exam and would be home for a while afterward. With their employer, Mrs. Newman, arrested, the servants contemplated enduring the situation for now and helping Mr. Trenton take control of the Newman family once he graduated from high school. They were determined not to let Ms. Camryn become the master of the large villa.
It appeared that Ms. Camryn had no immediate intentions of confronting them, but no one could predict if she would seek revenge later. Despite Mr. Trenton’s usual kindness toward Ms. Camryn, the servants suspected he would ultimately side with his mother rather than his half-sister.
Callum strode over to Camryn with purpose. She paused when she heard footsteps, sensing a shadow before her. She raised her head to focus on Callum, perceiving only a dark outline.
“Camryn, you were with that man all day, weren’t you? Where did you go together? It’s so late now. Did he just drop you off?”
Dalton’s assumption was indeed correct.
