Chapter 1475
“I’m sorry, Liberty.”
Serenity realized she was wrong to keep her sister uninformed.
Liberty was correct; they had relied on each other as sisters for many years. She could not conceal the truth from Liberty, even if she believed it was for her sister’s benefit.
Many people justify their actions as being for someone else’s good, but is that really the case? Have they ever considered how the other person feels?
“I know you’re concerned about me, so I don’t hold it against you. Just promise you won’t keep anything from me again. You don’t need to worry about this; I can manage it.”
“I believe in you, Liberty. You can do this!”
“Yes.”
Liberty added, “You should get back to work. I want Sonny to take a nap.”
“I’ll visit you after my students finish class in the afternoon.”
“Okay.”
After the call, Liberty turned her attention to her son.
Sonny was watching her closely.
“It’s naptime, Sonny.”
Liberty placed her phone back in the drawer and signaled for her son to lean forward. She intended to pick him up, but he resisted.
“I can climb up by myself, Mom. Aunt Ser said you’re still hurt and can’t carry me.” Sonny climbed onto the bed on his own.
Liberty lovingly touched her son’s head.
The best decision she made during the divorce was winning custody of Sonny.
Liberty did not need to undergo IV therapy in the afternoon. During lunch breaks, Sonny would rest in her bed.
The little guy had a routine: he would lie next to his mother, caressing her face with one hand, then hugging her arm as he drifted off to sleep.
Liberty gazed at her son with affection.
However, her thoughts were preoccupied with the fact that Duncan had feelings for her.
She couldn’t comprehend why Duncan was attracted to her.
Liberty had no doubts about her sister. If Duncan didn’t care for her, he wouldn’t have spent the entire night watching over the ICU entrance.
She reached out and gently caressed her son’s face. Remarrying was never an option she considered because she feared her second marriage could also end in unhappiness. Additionally, she worried about the possibility of Sonny being bullied or mistreated.
She had witnessed numerous stories about children suffering after a parent remarried and had additional children. Some even faced severe abuse, leading to tragic outcomes at the hands of their stepparents.
Liberty was scared.
She preferred to raise her son on her own.
Now, she had a stable income, promising future prospects, and the unwavering support of her sister and brother-in-law. She felt confident in her ability to raise Sonny alone.
Sonny was not lacking in love, either.
Everyone adored him. Even though Hank wasn’t the most responsible father, he still provided Sonny with fatherly affection. Liberty believed that surrounded by love, Sonny would grow up healthy and happy.
“Mom will always love you, Sonny.”
Liberty pressed a kiss to her son’s soft cheek.
After less than an hour of sleep, she awoke just as Mrs. Lane entered the room.
“Ms. Hunt, your grandparents and one of your cousins would like to see you.”
Liberty was taken aback.
