Chapter 1469
Zachary hummed and said, “Don’t order takeout for lunch. I’ll bring food over for us to enjoy together.”
Serenity was alone in the store, and Zachary couldn’t bear the thought of his beloved wife eating takeout. He had already ordered food from Wiltspoon Hotel, which a bodyguard picked up. Zachary planned to deliver the meal during his lunch break so they could share lunch at the bookstore.
“Okay, I won’t order takeout. You get back to work. School is almost out, so I’ll be busy too,” Serenity replied.
After saying this, Serenity hung up the phone.
On the other end, Zachary glanced at his phone and complained, “She didn’t even let me say goodbye.”
Meanwhile, Serenity began her work while Zachary wrapped up his tasks and left the office.
The bodyguard had just returned with the insulated lunch boxes from the hotel and hurried out to meet Zachary as he came downstairs.
A few minutes later, Zachary’s car exited York Corporation.
He left ten minutes before the lunch break, so the roads were still clear. He arrived at the bookstore shortly after.
There were still students shopping in Serenity’s bookstore. Spotting Serenity alone, some of them asked, “Serenity, I haven’t seen Jasmine for a few days. Where is she?”
Serenity and Jasmine were the only young bookstore owners nearby, so most students addressed them affectionately. Both women were attractive and treated the students kindly, making the bookstore a popular hangout after school.
“Jasmine has a significant event today and isn’t available, so I’ll be managing the store for the next two to three months. Why, do you miss Jasmine?” Serenity joked as she rang them up. After totaling their purchases, she offered them a discount.
“Two to three months is quite a while. Does that mean we’ll have to wait until next semester to see Jasmine? We really miss her. We missed you too when the store was closed for a few days. Serenity, we miss you so much. You have to give us a discount.”
Serenity laughed. “I thought you all genuinely missed me, but it turns out you were just looking for a bargain. Don’t worry; I won’t overcharge you. There are plenty of stores here, so you can compare prices. I promise I’ll never rip you off.”
It was now April. Josh took two months off after he and Jasmine got married, and when Jasmine returned, it would be nearly summer vacation.
Zachary entered with the insulated lunch boxes.
Even though the students knew that this serious man—who appeared even scarier than the dean—was Serenity’s husband, they still felt intimidated by him. They were too frightened to
joke with Serenity again.
After Serenity helped bag their purchases, they quickly grabbed their bags and slipped away.
However, they couldn’t resist stealing a glance at Zachary as they left.
Serenity’s husband was undeniably handsome.
It was just that his expression was too stern and intimidating.
“Do you need help?” Zachary asked after placing the insulated lunch boxes in the kitchen.
He surveyed the store and noticed only a few students and parents remaining inside.
Serenity chuckled. “Your help would only scare away my remaining customers. I’ll pass. Why did you come over so early?”
“I left early.”
“It must be nice being your own boss. No one questions you when you leave work early.”
Zachary smiled.
Ten minutes later, the customers finished purchasing the stationery they needed and left.
“Didn’t you mention that Sonny would be sent here?” Zachary asked.
“Sonny wanted to be with Liberty, so
Jim had no option but to return him to the hospital once more. After nearly being kidnapped again, Sonny became even more attached to his mother. Zachary remained silent; he returned to the kitchen, moved the packed dishes onto plates, and brought them out.
