Chapter 1467
Callum observed his sister-in-law’s speechless expression and cautiously asked, “Should I not have told her the truth? Should I have continued to lie? Perhaps I shouldn’t have revealed that Nana chose her to be my wife.”
Before Serenity could reply, he added, “I didn’t want to be like Zachary. I was afraid that if I kept the truth from her for too long until she eventually found out, she would be even angrier. I wanted to be honest with her. I didn’t want to deceive her.”
Following what happened to Zachary, Callum made a determined effort not to mislead Camryn.
Was telling the truth the wrong choice as well?
Serenity paused before expressing her thoughts, “No, but the way you presented it might lead Camryn to believe that you’re not sincere. It seems like you’re merely completing a task assigned by Nana. Put yourself in her position—would you feel happy if you were her?”
“Besides sensing that you view her as a task and not someone you genuinely like, she might also feel unworthy of you. Although she is the eldest daughter of the Newman family, her standing is negligible within her family. Other noble ladies matchmaking for their sons typically overlook her.”
“Camryn can’t see, which makes her feel inferior to others. You two don’t know each other well yet, and she can’t see you either. Even if she has a positive impression of you, there’s a limit to it. It’s understandable for her to avoid you after you revealed the truth.”
Callum replied bitterly, “But it’s the truth. I had to approach her because it was the task Nana assigned to me. Nana has her reasons for choosing Camryn. I haven’t figured those reasons out yet, but I felt there was no way to avoid this.”
“I don’t have a woman I like, so I’ll just marry whoever Nana tells me to marry.”
Serenity glared at him. “You took advantage of her even with that mindset?”
“She said we have nothing to do with each other, so I showed her that we do have a connection.”
Callum’s conviction appeared increasingly absurd under his sister-in-law’s intense gaze.
“You like Camryn. Your actions stemmed from jealousy. Callum, first, you need to understand why you acted the way you did. Reflect on your feelings and determine whether you truly care for Camryn.”
“Don’t treat her like a project. You must approach her as a lifelong partner. Your sincerity is crucial. Camryn already feels unworthy due to her blindness, and your behavior has only reinforced that. It’s no surprise she ran away.”
Callum fell silent.
“Your attitude has been wrong from the start. Go apologize to Camryn right now. From this day forward, you must be sincere and genuine in all your actions toward her. Do you honestly believe that without showing your feelings and sincerity, she will marry you simply because she’s the wife Nana chose for you? You’re not universally loved.”
Callum paused and then said, “She doesn’t want to see me. She told me to leave.”
“Serenity, please put in a good word for me. I’m not sure if I love her since I’ve never experienced love before, but I find myself liking her more each day. I promise I won’t treat her the way I did today. I’ll seek her consent first.”
“You made the mistake, so you need to face the consequences on your own. I can’t assist you with this.”
Serenity immediately refused.
Callum pleaded, “Serenity, you said you’d help me as long as it was within your capability. Just put in a word for me. It’s a simple favor. Are you really unwilling to do even that much?”
“If you lost a fight with someone, I’d be more than
I’m willing to gather some people and support you in a fight, but I won’t assist you in this situation. You need to approach Camryn yourself to make amends and apologize. Demonstrate your sincerity to her.
“Callum, whether it’s a man pursuing a woman or a woman pursuing a man, it all comes down to sincerity,” she said.
Callum fell silent once more. His sister-in-law’s words echoed Zachary’s sentiments. Zachary had also emphasized that sincerity was key.
After a long pause, he asked, “What if she doesn’t want to see me?”
“Are you saying you wouldn’t see her if she didn’t want to see you?”
“Of course not! I still have to marry her. How could I not go see her?”
