Chapter 1432
Liberty remained weak and soon fell asleep again.
Even Sonny dozed off in Serenity’s arms.
Serenity gently placed her nephew on the sofa bed and covered him with a light blanket. Noticing that her sister’s IV fluid was nearly finished, she rang the bell to alert the nurse to come and replace it.
After the IV drip was changed, Serenity watched for a few more minutes before quietly stepping outside.
Zachary pushed the door open and entered.
He found Serenity sitting on the sofa in the small lounge, looking dazed.
He walked over, sat beside her, and touched her shoulder, asking softly, “What’s wrong? Is Liberty asleep?”
“Liberty and Sonny are both asleep,” she replied.
Serenity leaned her head on her husband’s shoulder. “Babe.”
“Hm?”
Serenity simply called out to him without offering further explanation.
“Did you want to say something to me?” Zachary inquired gently.
Serenity wrapped her arms around him and said, “It’s nothing. I just wanted to call you.”
Zachary responded indulgently, “If you wanted to call me, then call me more often. I won’t find it annoying or bothersome.”
“I know about the trending search,” she said.
Zachary paused. “Seren, those paparazzi only spread nonsense. You don’t need to take it to heart.”
“I didn’t see what the paparazzi said; I only noticed that York Corporation issued a clarification statement from you.”
The initial trending search had been taken down, and Serenity didn’t bother to look it up. However, she could infer its content from the clarification statement Zachary released.
“Babe, thank you for defending me like that. I don’t care if others believe in me or not, but at least you stood by me.”
He took all the blame upon himself.
“You’re my wife.”
We’ll be spending the rest of our lives together. Who else would I defend if not you? Besides, I was being honest. I don’t want to have children just yet. We can have a child after our wedding and after we’ve spent enough time together.
“Seren, you really don’t need to put that kind of pressure on yourself. As my parents always said, let nature take its course. They won’t rush us into having a child. My mom mentioned they won’t pressure us for the next ten years.”
Serenity pulled away from his shoulder and looked up at him. “I’ll be thirty-six in ten years. That will put me at an advanced maternal age.”
Before Zachary could respond, she continued, “I’ve come to terms with it. I don’t want to stress myself out anymore. If I still can’t get pregnant after two or three years, let’s get a test to determine the cause.”
Zachary embraced her again, saying, “Okay. If we don’t have a child after three years, we’ll go for a checkup together. For now, try not to think about children. By the way, Seren, you won’t believe how many people have called to ask about me.”
“All of them offered to introduce me to a good doctor to help with my infertility. The first person who called was your cousin, and he’s the one I find most difficult to deal with. He only had a child with his wife a few years after their marriage. I used to tease him, saying I’d introduce him to a doctor.”
“As soon as the trending news broke, Clive couldn’t wait to throw all my past comments back in my face.”
Serenity replied, “That serves you right. Who told you to mock him before? Clive and Alice have a strong relationship and weren’t in a rush to have a child, yet you implied they were having issues. Clive has shown you plenty of respect by not confronting you about it.”
