Married at First Sight Chapter 1413

Chapter 1413
Claim
Since Mrs. Lewis traveled all this way to speak, Duncan felt he could no longer stay.
Serenity personally escorted Mrs. Lewis out of the ward.
She stood at the door, watching as Mrs. Lewis and Duncan walked away.
After a long moment, she sighed and returned inside with Zachary, glancing at her sleeping sister with concern.
Zachary placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and spoke softly, “Seren, everything will be alright. We don’t need to worry too much.”
As long as Duncan acknowledged his feelings, Zachary was confident he could persuade his parents to allow him to be with Liberty.
“Additionally, your sister isn’t interested in Duncan romantically. His feelings for her are his concern, and there’s no assurance that she will reciprocate. Let’s just see how things unfold for now.”
Serenity leaned against his shoulder and replied softly, “Setting aside Mr. Lewis’s status, he is a good man. If my sister wishes to remarry, I would support their relationship—not because of his status, but due to his sense of responsibility.”
Duncan and Hank were completely different individuals.
“You’re right, but it’s still too soon to discuss that. Liberty hasn’t even considered remarrying yet.”
At this moment, Serenity simply wanted her sister to recover. There was no need to rush into matters of the heart.
Although Mrs. Lewis took her youngest son out of the hospital, she did not allow him to drive. Instead, they shared a car home while Duncan’s vehicle was driven by his bodyguard.
Her expression remained grim during the journey.
She glanced at Duncan, noting his calm demeanor, as if he would remain unshaken even if the sky were to fall. This only fueled her anger further.
Unable to contain herself, she slapped Duncan’s arm.
Duncan looked at his mother in surprise.

Dismayed after being struck, he asked in confusion, “Why did you hit me, Mom? Were you trying to swat a large mosquito on my arm?”

“What’s wrong with you? You never notice any of the women in our social circle, yet you’ve taken an interest in a divorcee like Liberty! Setting aside the fact that she has a son, even if she has never been married before, I still won’t accept her as my daughter-in-law.”

Ultimately, her greatest fear was realized.

The issue lay with her son.

Liberty had no interest in Duncan.

Mrs. Lewis was furious and wanted to blame someone. She felt the urge to confront Liberty, but the situation wasn’t her fault. Despite her pride, she was a reasonable woman. Since the problem originated with her son, she could only vent her frustration on him.

If she approached Liberty, she might even be asked to take care of her son.

Duncan said, “I believe I have good taste. Liberty is a wonderful woman, so I’m drawn to her. What’s wrong with that? So what if she’s a divorced single mother? Initially, I was just interested in Sonny. That child is adorable and clever, just like me…”

Before he could finish his thought, his mother smacked him again.

Mrs. Lewis shouted, “Where’s your sense of shame? Do you even feel embarrassed? Sonny’s last name is Brown. How could Sonny Brown be just like you? Ugh, you’re shameless! If he were truly your flesh and blood, I’d accept Liberty as my daughter-in-law, no matter how much I dislike her. But is Sonny even yours?”

Duncan muttered, “I only said that Sonny is smart like me. I didn’t claim he was mine. I wish he were, but unfortunately, he isn’t. Still, it’s alright. If I become his stepdad, that counts too. A stepdad is still a dad. If I treat him well, he’ll accept me as his father.”
