Chapter 1404
Duncan was surprised to discover how much he cared for Liberty.
He had always thought that his kindness toward Liberty stemmed from his affection for Sonny.
But after learning that Liberty had been stabbed multiple times by an attacker, Duncan felt heartbroken, and the pain was hard to articulate. Despite his usual slowness in recognizing his feelings, he gradually realized that he had developed deeper emotions for Liberty.
Why did he like her?
He couldn’t say.
No wonder his friends often viewed him and Liberty as a couple; outsiders often have clearer perspectives.
Duncan remained unmoved even when faced with the impressive Lily. Instead, he felt an urge to escape. It wasn’t that Lily wasn’t good enough; it was that he had unknowingly given his heart to Liberty.
When Chelsea, her husband, and her parents arrived at the hospital, they found Duncan waiting outside the ward.
Upon hearing footsteps, Duncan turned around. When he saw Chelsea and her husband, his expression darkened, and he regarded the Browns with coldness.
“What are you doing here?”
Chelsea couldn’t help but ask Duncan.
Duncan replied icily, “What business is it of yours that I’m here?”
Chelsea was taken aback.
Now that Liberty was free and had lost some weight, it was natural for her to attract admirers.
Duncan had always treated Liberty kindly.
The Browns believed that Duncan was exceptionally attentive to Sonny because he harbored inappropriate feelings for Liberty.
At the time, since Liberty hadn’t slimmed down, the Browns reassured themselves that Duncan wouldn’t be interested in her. After all, he was a CEO worth tens of billions, while she was a divorced woman with a three-year-old son.
However, seeing Duncan waiting outside the ward now, the Browns could no longer deceive themselves. He genuinely cared for Liberty.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been there.
She should not be guarding her ward late at night. The Browns felt a mix of confusion and concern.
“It’s late. Why are you here instead of sleeping?” Duncan asked Chelsea coldly.
“I came to see my sister-in-”
“Mrs. Repton, have you forgotten that Liberty and your brother are divorced? She’s no longer your sister-in-law, so please refrain from calling her that. She doesn’t want to hear you use that term either.”
Chelsea was at a loss for words.
“Chelsea.”
Mrs. Brown gently pulled her daughter aside, reminding her not to argue with Duncan; it would be futile.
Duncan was correct. Liberty and Hank had been divorced for a long time, and Hank had since remarried.
“How is Liberty? Why isn’t Serenity watching over her sister? Why are you here instead?” Chelsea asked, still unhappy and unwilling to see Duncan in charge of Liberty’s care.
Jessica was a ruthless woman, and Chelsea was determined to persuade her brother to divorce Jessica so he could remarry Liberty.
Now, Liberty had a new admirer. Although Duncan’s face was scarred, he came from a strong family background and had certain advantages over Hank. Chelsea felt disheartened, believing there was no hope left for her brother to remarry Liberty.
