Chapter 1401
“Sonny.”
Zachary picked Sonny up and carried him.
Sonny did not resist his embrace even while awake.
At that moment, besides his Aunt Ser, his Uncle Zak was the person he trusted the most.
“Sonny, don’t be scared. I’ve taken care of the bad guys, the police have arrested them, and the doctor has saved your mom. She will wake up either tomorrow or the day after at the latest and call for you.”
Sonny looked seriously at Zachary and asked, “Uncle Zak, is that really true?”
“When have I ever lied to you, Sonny? It’s true.”
Zachary carried Sonny toward the bathroom. “Let’s wash your face and hands, okay?”
Sonny nodded, noticing how dirty his hands were.
With that, Zachary took Sonny into the bathroom to clean up before they came back out.
Just then, his bodyguard returned with fast food.
Serenity had no appetite. She fed Sonny first, but he, too, had lost his appetite.
Zachary urged them again, “Seren, Sonny, how can you manage if you don’t eat anything? If Liberty wakes up and sees you both collapsed, she’ll be worried. Sonny, come on, I’ll feed you. Once you’re full, you can take a shower, change into clean clothes, and wait for your mom to wake up.”
“If she wakes up and sees what you’re wearing now, she’ll be terrified.”
Sonny looked down at his clothes, which were indeed very dirty.
They were also stained with blood.
Sonny was easily persuaded. With Zachary’s coaxing, he agreed to eat.
Serenity forced herself to eat something, remembering Zachary’s words. She knew she wouldn’t be able to hold up if she didn’t eat or drink. If she collapsed before her sister woke up, how could she care for her sister?
Half an hour later,
Zachary’s driver brought the RV over. Zachary allowed Serenity to take Sonny to shower and change into clean clothes. He called Josh only after Serenity had left.
“Josh, how’s it going?” Zachary asked.
“Mrs. Newman was taken away for investigation, but Mr. Newman was not,” Josh replied regretfully. “Mr. Newman happened to go on a business trip this morning and is currently not in Wiltspoon.”
Zachary had suspected this outcome for a while. “The others were apprehended, and the man who stabbed your sister-in-law multiple times was also sent to the hospital and is under police surveillance.” That man had been severely beaten by the Yorks’ bodyguards and was injured.
“Has your sister-in-law woken up yet?” Zachary inquired.
“Not yet,” Josh said. After a brief silence, he added, “Comfort your wife and explain the situation to her so she doesn’t misunderstand you.”
“I understand,” Zachary replied.
“Let us know if there’s anything we can do to help,” Josh offered.
Zachary thanked him.
Outside, the sky was darkening; night was approaching. Duncan arrived again.
“Zachary,” he called softly as he approached, then looked toward the ward and asked, “Has Liberty not woken up yet?”
Zachary shook his head.
