Married at First Sight Chapter 1396

**Chapter 1396**

Serenity had offended an unknown woman, who sought revenge. In her quest for retribution, the woman coerced Jessica into using Sonny. She claimed that as long as Sonny behaved well—without crying or causing trouble—she would not harm him. Furthermore, she assured that he would be returned safely if Serenity came to see her. Sonny would not lose a single hair.

How could Jessica have known that Liberty would be hurt because of Sonny? Regardless of the circumstances, Sonny was going to be fine.

Hank stood in place, muttering, “How could it be Jessica? How could it be Jessica…? How could it be?”

“Hank!”

Mr. Brown shouted angrily and suddenly slapped Hank, the sound echoing loudly. Everyone watched in silence, making no attempt to intervene.

“It was you—it was you who brought that spiteful woman into our family. She shattered your marriage and wreaked havoc on our lives. Sonny’s custody was awarded to Liberty, yet she did something so malicious to him. That vicious woman… It was you—you were blind!”

Mr. Brown pointed at his son, cursing him.

Despite being slapped by his father, Hank did not dare respond. He covered his bruised face, unable to meet his parents’ gaze. He never expected things would escalate to this point; he could hardly believe that Jessica would scheme against Sonny.

Sonny had been entrusted to Liberty. If they hadn’t gone to see him, Sonny and Liberty would likely have remained out of their lives, and it wouldn’t have affected them at all.

Why would Jessica do this?

Was she afraid that Hank might rekindle his feelings for Liberty because of Sonny and seek a remarriage?

She clearly underestimated Liberty. Since Liberty divorced Hank, there was no chance she would return to him. Furthermore, Liberty’s life was improving…

improve while Hank’s situation deteriorated. Even if the roles were reversed, her temperament would prevent her from looking back and disrupting his life.

An intelligent person would avoid returning to a life they had chosen to leave behind. Liberty was that kind of person; she would prefer to be a single mother for the rest of her life than go back to a man like Hank.

“I warned you not to marry her; she’s not as good as Liberty. You didn’t listen and insisted you were truly in love. Pfft, you used to say the same about your relationship with Liberty!”

Mrs. Brown chastised her son, “And now? Look at how Jessica behaves. She argues with me and fights with your sister every day. She even accused us of teaming up to bully her, when in reality, she’s the one bullying us. She takes advantage of your love and disregards us.”

“Hank Brown, are you satisfied now? Are you?!”

After reprimanding her son, Mrs. Brown turned her ire toward her husband, saying, “I told you not to transfer any money to Liberty and not to allow them to divorce. Neither you nor Hank listened to me. Now, you’re blaming your son for it!”

In frustration, Mr. Brown pushed Mrs. Brown back and retorted, “The real issue lies with you and your troublesome daughter. If you hadn’t talked so much, picked fights, and created discord between Hank and Liberty, this wouldn’t have happened!”

“How much better do you think you are? Have you ever spoken up? Have you ever said anything?”

Mrs. Brown realized how wrong she was. She had driven Liberty, who had once been a good daughter-in-law, away from her son. As a result, her son married Jessica, a troublemaker and spendthrift who brought chaos into their family.

It would have been bad enough if that were all, but that malicious woman was now threatening Lucas and Sonny. Chelsea may have been loose-lipped, but how could Jessica, as their aunt, be so cruel as to collaborate with kidnappers?

Did she kidnap Lucas to get back at Chelsea? After Liberty divorced Hank, she never clung to him. If Hank and Jessica hadn’t constantly bothered her, she might not have wanted to see them at all. Liberty had no impact on Hank’s new life, yet Jessica sought to harm Sonny. Mrs. Brown remembered urging her son to divorce Jessica and remarry Liberty. She even pointed out that Liberty was capable of earning a living and had successfully slimmed down to her pre-marriage figure. If Hank and Liberty remarried, it would greatly benefit him. Did Jessica become resentful because of this and target Sonny as a result?
