Chapter 1383
Callum gazed into Camryn’s eyes for a moment before saying, “Serenity is right. You should prioritize getting your eyes fixed if you want to gather evidence. I’ll keep the voice recorder safe for you here to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. Otherwise, it could put you in danger.”
“Thank you, Mr. Callum.”
Camryn had never considered asking for the voice recorder back.
As Callum mentioned, the recorder could jeopardize her life.
“I’m going to cooperate if they plan to use me to save your sister. Do you have any objections?”
Camryn appeared bewildered.
“What do you mean by ‘cooperate’?”
“Your stepfather wants me to marry you. They must believe I’m resistant and will use this as leverage to get your sister released from jail. Well, they are mistaken.”
Callum was a proud member of the York family, not someone to be trifled with.
Mr. and Mrs. Newman must be desperate to resort to such tactics.
They were particularly fond of Carrie.
“What are your thoughts on me marrying you?”
“Huh?” Camryn was taken aback.
“It’s challenging to collect evidence on your own. By marrying you and entering the Newman family, I could gain easy access in and out of their residence. This way, I can assist you in gathering proof. One day, they will face justice, and I can avenge my father-in-law.”
Callum believed his father-in-law must be turning in his grave, given that his brother had an affair with his wife and mistreated his daughter. One night, his father-in-law would return to haunt Mr. Newman.
As the son-in-law, Callum felt it was his duty to help avenge his father-in-law.
Camryn was left speechless.
She was completely at a loss for words.
Meanwhile, Liberty’s diner was nearing closing time, around ten o’clock.
It was time to tidy up. After the last group of customers left, Liberty and her two employees began cleaning the diner. While she was busy, her clingy ex-husband showed up. Hank was accompanied by Jessica, as usual. With their wedding date approaching, they appeared together unless Hank was out driving for Uber.
“Liberty, where’s Sonny?” was the first thing Hank asked upon entering the diner. “I want to take Sonny to try on a suit,” he declared. Liberty paused her cleaning and looked up at her ex-husband. She quietly replied, “Didn’t I tell you Sonny’s size? You can rent him a tux or buy a new one in his size.” There was no need to take Sonny with him. She exchanged a few glances with Jessica.
Jessica, without hesitation, chimed in, “Sonny should choose what he likes, Liberty. Our tastes as adults might differ from his.” She continued, “Hank and I just want to take Sonny out to try on some clothes. We’ll bring him back to you right after. You’re busy cleaning up, and we’ll return around the time you’re finished.”
“It won’t take long. The formal wear rental shop is close by—just a ten-minute drive,” Hank added, echoing Jessica’s sentiments. “Are you trying to take time away from me and Sonny, Liberty? He’s my son too. We agreed I could meet with him whenever I wanted.”
“I’m not saying I won’t bring Sonny back. He’s just picking out an outfit for the flower boy role. Didn’t you talk to him about it? If you haven’t, I will. I can share anything with my son.” He continued, “If you don’t let me take him for a fitting, you’re refusing visitation. That violates our agreement. I could take this to court and fight for custody.”
Although Hank might not win, he felt satisfied as long as he could annoy and frustrate Liberty.
