Chapter 1381
“No,”
Camryn replied softly. “I’m never included in their discussions.”
She picked up her cane, which had been left in her mother’s bedroom after her mother had kicked it away the previous night.
The next day, the maid returned the cane to Camryn, informing her that it had been found in front of her mother’s bedroom door.
Camryn assumed her mother had thrown it out.
Handing the cane to Callum, she intended to pass it to him, but he mistakenly thought she was going to hit him. As he reached out to grab it, Camryn loosened her grip, causing it to hit Callum instead.
“The inside of my cane is hollow; there’s a voice recorder hidden inside,” Camryn stated flatly.
Callum’s dark eyes lit up as his perception of her began to shift, prompting him to cease his teasing.
He held the cane up for inspection, flicked the wood, and successfully pried open a hollow section, revealing the voice recorder within.
“The villa is supposed to be mine, yet I still lack control over my own house. It doesn’t feel safe, even though it is my home. While Spring Blossoms is my business, the constant influx of people makes it risky. After considering my options, I believe the safest place is with you.”
This was why Camryn had no objections and had come here with her cane when Callum called her for the floral delivery.
She chose to be honest with Callum, taking the first step in trusting him.
After all, he had saved her life before.
She felt she could rely on him.
No matter Callum’s motives for approaching her, he was one of the two people she could trust.
The other was Serenity.
“What did you…
“Capture on tape?”
“How long did you keep the voice recorder hidden in the cane?”
Camryn paused for a moment before responding, “I secretly concealed the voice recorder in the cane when she insisted on taking me to the event. I’m not sure what’s recorded because I haven’t had the courage to take it out at home or in the shop.”
Callum stared at her intensely until a question emerged. “What do you know?”
“I believe my dad died under suspicious circumstances, but he passed away when I was only two. I didn’t learn much until I overheard something. I wanted to gather evidence in secret, but I fell ill before I could do anything. After that, I was blind to it all.”
Without saying a word, Callum switched on the voice recorder.
It began with a conversation between mother and daughter.
Mrs. Newman was angrily confronting Camryn.
Next, the recording captured a dialogue between Mr. and Mrs. Newman, occurring the night after the event when Callum had rescued and driven Camryn home.
The couple spoke freely in the privacy of their bedroom.
Mrs. Newman remarked that the master bedroom was soundproof, implying that unless someone was hiding inside, no one could overhear their conversation within those four walls.
The couple’s exchange was recorded only because Mrs. Newman had kicked Camryn’s cane while in her room.
After listening to the recording, Camryn went pale.
Her suspicions from ten years ago were confirmed.
They were involved in her father’s death!
