Chapter 1352
Serenity’s headache was clearly a hangover.
She endured the pain and grabbed her phone to check the time—it was ten in the morning.
She muttered to herself, “When he wakes up, he leaves me alone in the room; but when I wake up first, he accuses me of abandoning him.”
Knock, knock.
There was a knock at the door.
Thinking it was the maid, Serenity called out, “Come in.”
The door opened, revealing her sister, Liberty, with her nephew, Sonny, trailing behind.
“Liberty?”
Serenity was taken aback to see her sister, considering that Liberty’s breakfast place was still open at this hour.
“Liberty, what brings you here?”
As Serenity attempted to turn over to get out of bed, a sharp ache shot through her head due to the sudden movement.
She had slept through the night, so why was her head still pounding?
She had only consumed a few glasses of wine.
Liberty walked over and perched on the edge of Serenity’s bed. She studied her sister and asked, “Does your heart hurt?”
“No, it’s fine,” Serenity smiled and fibbed.
“I closed early today to check on you. How much did you drink last night?”
“Not much. Liberty, it’s hard to avoid drinking when socializing. I only had a few glasses—just a few.”
Serenity was aware that her sister had always discouraged her from drinking and had asked Zachary to keep an eye on her to prevent her from consuming wine excessively. Liberty often reminded her that her alcohol tolerance was low, even if she enjoyed drinking.
“Zachary mentioned you drank quite a bit and kept praising the wine on your way home. While socializing may require some drinking, moderation is key. How many times have I told you this?”
Liberty continued.
Liberty had social engagements in the past due to her work. Although she had to drink, she was careful not to overindulge, as she understood her own tolerance. In short, Liberty always maintained a clear mind and remained agile in social situations to avoid being manipulated by others.
“Zachary complained about me to you,” Serenity said.
After she spoke, her sister lightly poked her on the forehead.
Serenity rubbed the spot where she was poked and murmured, “He just likes to tattle on me. Whenever I do something wrong, he rushes to you to complain.”
“I don’t even grumble about him to his parents,” Liberty replied, defending Zachary. “He didn’t tell on you; he just accidentally mentioned it when I asked him what happened.”
“He’s usually so tight-lipped, so how could he have accidentally said anything? He told on me for drinking too much. I can see through his little mind. The wine was good, and if he hadn’t stopped me, I would have had a few more glasses… Liberty… Don’t pull my ear.”
Mrs. York acknowledged her desire for drinks as her sister tugged on her ear.
