Chapter 1333
After greeting the hosts, everyone began searching for friends to chat with or discuss business.
Initially, Serenity remained by Zachary’s side. He didn’t need to seek out others for collaboration discussions, as many CEOs were eager to partner with him.
Serenity observed how Zachary became the center of attention wherever he went, with everyone gravitating toward him.
She whispered to her husband, “I overestimated myself when I thought I could stand on equal footing with you.”
Instead of aiming to match him, she felt that simply supporting him was more than enough.
Zachary lifted their interlocked hands, gazed at her with a warm smile, and said gently, “We’re holding hands and standing shoulder to shoulder now.”
“Honey, to me, there’s no distance between us. If there were any, it would simply be that I am a man and you are a woman.”
Serenity smiled. She had learned the art of socializing from Aunt Audrey over time, gaining knowledge and self-confidence along the way.
Zachary had a head start that made it impossible for her to catch up.
However, the fact that she was his wife was a permanent bond. Her in-laws had never opposed their relationship or held any disdain for her. Therefore, there was no reason for her to create unnecessary trouble for herself.
Serenity decided to go with the flow.
She would continue to work hard and accept the extent of her career progression.
Serenity resolved to face all challenges she encountered as Mrs. York with composure.
She would welcome everything, whether it was praise, criticism, or even sarcastic and hateful remarks.
No one can please everyone. Regardless of how well someone performs, there will always be critics looking to nitpick. It’s perfectly fine as long as one maintains a clear conscience and doesn’t dwell on others’ opinions.
Others remarked that their mouths belonged to themselves.
After marrying Zachary, Serenity reached the pinnacle of her life, prompting jealousy from many.
“Babe, I think I love you so much right now,” Zachary said, his gaze soft and his eyes filled with happiness. “I love you very much too.”
“Zachary,” she replied.
Josh approached with Jasmine, both holding glasses of red wine. Upon recognizing familiar friends, they greeted each other with a toast.
Zachary and his wife looked at the charming couple, and he whispered to Serenity, “Don’t hide in a corner and eat like a glutton with Jasmine like you did last year.”
Serenity was at a loss for words.
“You two can be considered a long-married couple, yet you’re still so affectionate in public,” she remarked.
Josh had intended to clink glasses with Zachary as he approached, but noticing that the married couple wasn’t holding wine like the others, he called over a waiter and handed Zachary a glass. Zachary turned to Serenity.
“Mrs. York,” Josh teased with a smile. “Can our CEO drink tonight?”
Serenity responded, “Of course.”
Why did they even need to ask her that?
Zachary had numerous business engagements that often required drinking. It was fine as long as he didn’t get completely drunk.
Serenity didn’t recall ever controlling Zachary’s alcohol intake.
With a grin, Josh clinked glasses with Zachary and said to Serenity, “From your expression just now, it seems you’ve taken the blame for our CEO multiple times. Whenever Zachary attends a business event lately, he claims his wife won’t let him drink and that he’d have to sleep in the study if he did.”
Serenity replied, “Didn’t I only say that once before?”
She was aware that Zachary had previously used her as an excuse.
