Chapter 1327
Mr. Newman did not oppose his daughter marrying into the York family; rather, he questioned the feasibility of such a match.
Serenity had reached the pinnacle of success without fully realizing how, while others found it impossible to gain access to Wildridge Manor, no matter their efforts.
This situation was genuinely frustrating.
“So, we’ll choose Mr. Stone?”
Mr. Newman turned to his wife and remarked, “You become confused when it comes to Carrie. You focus solely on marrying our daughter into the best families, forgetting their connections. Serenity is Mrs. Stone’s niece. Do you really think Carrie would thrive as Mrs. Stone’s daughter-in-law?”
Mrs. Newman was left speechless.
Indeed, she had overlooked that detail.
“Carrie is still young, so there’s no rush. We can take our time to make a choice. Our primary goal is to secure her release from jail, find someone the York family respects to mediate, and persuade Serenity to drop the lawsuit against Carrie.”
Mr. Newman believed that as long as Serenity held her position as the lady of the York family, his beloved daughter would be unable to marry into the Wiltspoon gentry.
He began to consider promising young men from other cities.
As the couple spoke, Camryn finally emerged from the house.
Mrs. Newman preferred that Camryn not share a car with them, but Mr. Newman insisted, “Remember our plan for tonight. Don’t let a minor issue disrupt it. This is Camryn’s debut at a banquet, and she is your daughter. What will people think if you make her ride with the bodyguards?”
“It’s just about dressing her up and presenting her well. Everyone in Wiltspoon knows her status as the eldest of the Newman family.”
Mrs. Newman grumbled but eventually got out and ushered Camryn into the car.
In no time at all, the three of them arrived at Wiltspoon Hotel.
*
Upon arrival, they discovered that the parking lot in front of the entrance was full. Latecomers had to park their cars in the hotel’s basement parking.
Mr. Newman and his family exited at the hotel entrance and asked the driver to park in the basement.
All the prominent figures of Wiltspoon had gathered at the hotel. The Newman family possessed assets worth over a billion dollars, yet they did not flaunt their wealth ostentatiously; others only knew that their business was thriving outside the city. Aside from a few influential families, most people were unaware of the exact extent of the Newmans’ earnings.
As a result, the Newmans were not perceived as excessively wealthy, and few people sought to ingratiate themselves with them.
“Mr. Newman, Mrs. Newman, Ms. Newman.”
Callum, who had been waiting by the hotel entrance, finally spotted his fiancée’s family arriving.
He feigned a chance encounter with the trio, walking over and greeting them with politeness.
“Mr. York.”
Mrs. Newman smiled upon seeing Callum and greeted him formally. There were many people at the entrance when he approached them, and she felt a sense of pride in the attention.
Mr. Newman felt similarly.
Though Callum was not the head of the family, he served as the COO of York Corporation and had earned Zachary’s trust and reliance. As the second young master, his status and identity ranked just below Zachary’s.
He was also the most sought-after son-in-law among the ladies.
Not even Zachary had been as popular as Callum during his single days, primarily because Zachary had a colder demeanor.
In contrast, Callum was mild-tempered, friendly, and gentle, making him easier to connect with than Zachary.
Callum’s eyes sparkled with admiration as he looked at his
fiancée.
