Chapter 1323
“Yes, my wife has trained me well.”
Liam opened his mouth but found himself at a loss for words.
His son was even more under his wife’s influence than he was.
While the father and son were talking, the most distinguished mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in Wiltspoon descended the stairs.
Zachary instantly recognized that the jewelry Serenity was wearing did not come from him. He knew his mother had intentionally given it to her without having to ask.
Indeed, Tania had gone upstairs to see her daughter-in-law putting on makeup, just to hand over the set of jewelry she had packed in her bag.
In her words, the jewelry set was too flashy for someone her age, making it more appropriate for Serenity.
Tania, raised in a wealthy family, had received a lot of jewelry from a young age. After marrying into the York family, she was greatly cherished by her husband, who also gifted her many pieces. Additionally, her mother-in-law presented her with several sets of luxurious jewelry when Zachary was born.
Without a daughter, Tania naturally intended for her treasured jewelry to go to her daughter-in-law. Since Serenity was her only daughter-in-law, giving her jewelry was akin to how Grandma May gifted her a set when Zachary was born.
Serenity, having been well-prepared by Audrey after attending several banquets, changed into an elegant dress, applied light makeup, and adorned herself with the jewelry her mother-in-law had given her. She looked so radiant and poised that Zachary was momentarily speechless.
Liam inwardly critiqued his son, realizing that he was destined to be under Serenity’s control for the rest of his life.
If Serenity heard Liam’s thoughts, she would retort, “I feel like I’m the one being controlled for life.”
“Babe, look at the…
“Does the jewelry my mom gave me look good?”
Zachary nodded. “Yes, but I think you’ll look even better in the jewelry I gave you.”
Tania laughed and teased him, “Are you really going to be jealous of your own mother? Seren, you’re the only one who can put up with how petty he is.”
Serenity shot her husband a look; she wasn’t the one calling him petty—his mother was. A mother knows her son best, after all, and her mother-in-law was telling the truth.
“It’s getting late. Let’s go,” Liam said as he stood up and called for his wife, ready to head to Wiltspoon Hotel.
“Dad, Zachary hasn’t changed his clothes yet,” Zachary’s son pointed out.
Liam turned to his son and said, “Why are you still standing there like a wooden block? You really are like one—motionless unless someone nudges you. Only someone like Serenity could tolerate a wooden block like you.”
The husband and wife praised their daughter-in-law while stepping over their son.
Zachary grumbled, “I don’t know which of us is your real child.” Then he stood up and went upstairs to change.
Serenity thought her in-laws were the best in the world.
Zachary changed quickly, coming downstairs without his coat or tie, which he carried in his hands.
Liam pulled his wife outside, unable to bear the sight of his arrogant and jealous son.
Serenity casually walked over, took the coat from her husband, and helped him put it on. Then she started tying his tie.
After adjusting his clothes, she stepped back and praised him, “As expected of a mannequin—you look good in anything.”
Then she linked her arm with his and smiled. “Let’s not keep your parents waiting.”
“You’re not allowed to sleep in the guest room tonight,” Zachary added.
“I won’t.”
Serenity couldn’t help but laugh. “I was just teasing you.”
She felt she had no choice; it was the only way to handle this man.
Given Old Mr. Marshall’s standing in Wiltspoon, even Zachary had to treat him with utmost respect.
His business receptions were always lavish, and guests felt privileged to be invited to a banquet he organized.
