Chapter 1303
Lily was completely unoffended.
She and Duncan had known each other for a long time, but they had hardly interacted. In fact, they had never really spent time together.
It was not surprising that Duncan had little understanding of her past.
“Here you go, Ms. Harmon,”
Liberty said as she delivered Lily’s order. She placed it in front of Lily with a smile, adding, “Enjoy, Ms. Harmon.”
Lily smiled back at Liberty.
Liberty returned to her seat.
“How did you meet her, Liberty?” Serenity whispered.
“Mrs. Lewis visited me the other day and mentioned that she was trying to set up Ms. Harmon and Mr. Lewis. She showed me a picture of Ms. Harmon, and that’s how I recognized her,”
Liberty replied quietly. She continued, “Don’t you think they would make a cute couple? It’s nice being around her; she doesn’t have the arrogance typically found among the upper class.”
Serenity met her sister’s gaze before lowering her head to her food. She murmured, “They do seem to match well.”
Aunt Audrey had mentioned that Mrs. Lewis was not the easiest person to get along with.
Zachary had mentioned it as well.
Perhaps it was a good sign that Mrs. Lewis had someone in mind for her daughter-in-law. She was hoping for a relationship between Ms. Harmon and Duncan. At least her sister was not involved in the matchmaking.
“Mom.”
Sonny sat up after waking and instinctively called out to his mother.
With just one last bite of pasta left, Serenity told Liberty, “I’ll prepare something for Sonny to eat. That should give you time to finish your breakfast, Liberty. It’s only going to get busier.”
She made her way over to her nephew and picked him up.
“Aunt Ser.”
Sonny was still groggy from waking up. Clinging to Serenity by the nape of her neck, he rested his head on her shoulder and said, “Aunt Ser, I need to pee.”
Serenity took him into the washroom.
By the time they exited, Sonny was able to walk on his own two feet.
Spotting Duncan, the boy politely greeted him. Having never met Lily before, Sonny’s bright eyes sparkled as he turned to her and showed his gentlemanly side. “Hello, ma’am.”
Lily smiled and reached out to stroke his head. “You must be Sonny. You’re so adorable! I’m Lily Harmon, a friend of Duncan’s.”
“Hello, Ms. Harmon,” Sonny replied.
Feeling shy, he quickly sought refuge beside Liberty, who lifted him onto her lap.
“What do you want to eat, Sonny? Your aunt will make it for you.”
Sonny thought for a moment before replying softly, “Egg and soldiers.” Serenity then asked her sister, “Do you have bread here?”
“Yes, I do. Sonny usually has eggs and soldiers for breakfast. I make dippy eggs every day, and some customers even order it, even though it’s not on the menu.”
Serenity placed a pot on the stove and said, “I’ll make it for him then.”
As Liberty finished cleaning her plate, she set Sonny in Serenity’s seat and cleared the table. “Stay here and don’t run around, Sonny. Your aunt will be back with your breakfast. We have customers, so I’ll be a little busy.”
“Okay,” Sonny replied obediently.
It was morning rush hour, just after seven o’clock, and many people who worked over the weekend arrived in droves for breakfast. Liberty became increasingly busy.
Serenity prepared breakfast for her nephew. Noticing that Sonny could feed himself, she decided to help her sister instead.
Duncan and Lily departed together after they finished their breakfast.
To be honest, Duncan wished to stay but opted to leave because Lily was present.
Liberty didn’t even notice his departure, as she was overwhelmed with orders.
