Chapter 1289
Camryn and her aunt had a suspicion about who had poisoned her, but they lacked concrete evidence.
Ten years earlier, Camryn was just a sixteen-year-old girl. Since her aunt had married and moved out of the city, she seldom returned to their family home. They had been unable to gather proof against the person responsible for the poisoning.
All Camryn remembered was that her aunt had an argument with her stepfather. After her stepfather slapped her, her aunt left in tears. From that moment on, whenever her aunt returned to the city, she always stayed at the Wiltspoon Hotel and never set foot in the Newmans’ residence.
Callum remarked, “You have a positive outlook on life.”
Camryn responded quietly, “What can I do? Will crying help me regain my sight?”
“Regardless of what happens, I have to confront and accept reality,” she added.
Impressed, Callum said, “Not bad. I admire your perspective.”
With a serious expression, Camryn inquired, “What time is it, Mr. Callum? If it’s time, we should go have dinner.”
One employee had stepped out to make a floral delivery, while the other remained to oversee the shop.
The employees couldn’t take their eyes off Callum.
They whispered among themselves about the York boys’ good looks, confirming their suspicions once they learned who Callum was. The rumors about their attractive genes were indeed true.
Callum also seemed to be looking out for their boss. Camryn noted that Callum brought business to the shop, even though he only visited two or three times.
The two employees teased Camryn, suggesting that Callum had a crush on her. Although she suspected it herself, she never took their comments seriously.
She refused to believe that Callum had genuine feelings for her; it must be a novelty for him, given that this was his first encounter with a blind person.
Most people were curious when they discovered she was blind.
Callum looked at the…
“It’s still early, so there’s no need to rush. You can treat me to dinner in about half an hour,” she said.
As they spoke, two cars approached and stopped in front of Spring Blossoms.
An employee stepped outside to greet the customer, but halfway there, she turned back and informed Camryn, “Boss, your mom is here.”
It was Mrs. Newman.
The bodyguards exited the car and opened the door for her.
Although she knew her mother had arrived, Camryn kept a neutral expression.
Callum was aware of Mrs. Newman’s mistreatment of Camryn. Serenity had convinced him to drive Camryn back to the shop because Mrs. Newman had left her in an unfamiliar place. As a mother, Mrs. Newman was cruel to abandon her daughter in such a setting, especially knowing that Camryn was visually impaired. If Camryn wasn’t careful, she could easily have an accident. Mrs. Newman truly was a heartless mother.
While Callum could easily label Mrs. Newman as an uncaring parent who showed little concern for her daughter, it was evident that she showered Carrie with love and affection.
This was where Callum found the situation perplexing. Camryn was Mrs. Newman’s biological child; how could she show such favoritism? She treated her eldest child harshly while lavishing attention on the youngest.
Rumor had it that Mr. Newman, her uncle and stepfather, was kinder to Camryn than Mrs. Newman herself was.
When Mrs. Newman exited the car, she noticed a luxury sedan parked nearby—it belonged to Callum.
“Are you here to buy flowers, mister? Who are they for? I can wrap them up for you,” she asked.
Mrs. Newman entered the shop and spotted Camryn engaged in conversation with a tall man.
Callum played along, saying, “I’d like a bouquet of roses for my fiancée. I’m thinking of ninety-nine roses. Please bundle them up for me, as I plan to take them with me shortly.”
“Of course,” she replied.
