his intentions. Clive was feeling downcast. While Zachary was open to accepting Elisa as his cousin, Clive did not receive the same consideration. After all, Serenity held Clive in lower regard compared to Elisa.
“Babe,” Serenity called out.
“Remy,” Elisa chimed in.
Both Serenity and Elisa exited the house, making their way towards the two men at the gazebo.
Remy turned to Zachary and said, “Your sunshine has arrived.”
Zachary shot back, “It seems your shimmering moonlight is here as well.”
They exchanged a brief glance. After gathering his belongings, Remy told Zachary, “I’ll take off now; I wouldn’t want to be the third wheel.”
As he walked toward Elisa, he continued, “Sorry for making you wait, Remy. I heard from the housekeeper that you were looking for me. What’s going on?”
Elisa paused in front of him.
Remy handed her the items he had brought. With a smile, he said gently, “I heard you liked the treats from this shop. I happened to pass by earlier and thought I’d pick up some of your favorites.”
“Here, this is for you.”
Elisa accepted the gift and replied, “I only mentioned it casually. If I’m in the mood for a light snack, that place is my favorite. It has such a nice ambiance—quiet and peaceful. I could sit there all day.”
“Thank you, Remy,” she added.
Even though she had said it offhandedly, Remy remembered her words and went out of his way to buy those snacks for her. Elisa felt valued for the first time, experiencing the warmth of someone’s thoughtfulness.
However, she recalled that Remy had once mentioned having a crush on someone.
Someone who had no desire to compete for a man’s affection again quickly dismissed the strange happiness bubbling up in her heart. She had cherished Zachary for years, but her feelings were in vain. Watching Zachary and Serenity as a couple, all lovey-dovey, she couldn’t help but feel envious.
