“Do you remember when we first got married? Ms. Sox attended with you and Mrs. Lowe. When you returned from the banquet, you shared some gossip with me.”
Zachary leaned closer to Serenity and whispered, “Back then, you suggested I was either gay or unable to perform. Now that you know me better, what do you think?”
Serenity quickly pushed him away. At that time, she had no idea her husband was the heir of the York family. She had heard the rumors about him and thought he was unusual, leading her to make that offhand comment. To her surprise, he still remembered it.
No wonder he acted so passionately every time they became intimate; he was eager to prove his capabilities.
“The banquet is in two days?” Serenity inquired.
“Yes, Sunday night,” he replied.
That meant tomorrow was Saturday. She remarked, “Most people usually host banquets on Fridays or Saturdays so they can rest afterward. Why did the Marshalls choose to hold theirs on a Sunday night?”
Zachary smiled. “The purpose of business parties is to discuss business matters. If they negotiate a deal on Sunday night, they can act on it the next day when they return to work. Doesn’t that make sense? Plus, it could benefit the project you and Elisa just started.”
“You mentioned that you don’t need my help, so I’ll let you handle the discussions. I’ll just observe from the sidelines.”
She declined his assistance, so he would simply watch without intervening. If she ever needed his support, all she had to do was ask, and he would jump in right away.
“Oh, by the way, will Elisa be joining us?” she asked.
Zachary paused for a moment before responding, “In the past, Clive wouldn’t arrive early if I was present at Old Mr. Marshall’s banquet. He would only show up after I left. We don’t see eye to eye…”
“It will be troublesome for the Marshalls if we get into a conflict,” she said.
“That’s why Clive and I never attend events at the same time. When other families host banquets, they invite either me or Clive, but never both of us. This is to prevent us from crossing paths.”
Serenity paused before replying, “I’ve never seen you two in a fight before…”
Perhaps it was because she hadn’t truly immersed herself in the business world. Even if she had, her investment project differed significantly from those of York Corporation and Stone Group, so she would still be at a disadvantage.
“Rest assured, for your sake, our disagreements won’t escalate too badly.”
Zachary placed a hand on her shoulder and gently rested her head against his. “Seren, I’ll always care for the people you value.”
“Thank you,” she said, returning the hug with gratitude.
“Jasmine and Mr. Bucham’s engagement party is set for March. I’ll be attending several banquets this month, as many people are getting married after the new year.”
