Chapter 1195
Carrie could not tolerate her brother’s kindness towards Camryn. Since he started first grade, she had asked Mrs. Newman to send him to boarding school to minimize the time he spent at home.
Despite this, he continued to treat Camryn with kindness.
Camryn’s brother, nine years her junior, had always felt a sense of guilt. He blamed himself for not convincing their parents to take her to the hospital when she was ill while he was at school, which ultimately led to her losing her sight.
In that family, the only warmth Camryn felt came from her brother.
Callum listened to her share the most heart-wrenching words with a calm demeanor. Strangely, he felt a sense of sympathy for her.
Perhaps it was because he knew she was the wife his grandmother had chosen for him from the beginning.
Callum regarded Camryn as his partner.
“Happiness follows hardship,” Callum said in a deep, gentle voice.
Camryn smiled back at him. “You don’t need to feel sorry for me, Mr. York. While they don’t treat me well, they have raised me until now.”
Though they did nearly cost her life…
“Have you decided on the flowers you want to buy, Mr. York?”
Camryn shifted the topic.
She was not close to Callum and preferred not to discuss her personal issues with him.
“Since I gave you a ride to work, you should give me a bouquet in return.”
Camryn was taken aback.
She hadn’t anticipated Callum would request a bouquet as repayment for his assistance.
She had never given flowers to a man before.
After some thought, Camryn decided to pick out some flowers and prepare a bouquet for him.
“I would like a bouquet of red roses with baby’s breath,” he stated.
Camryn hesitated for a moment before responding, “I don’t think it’s appropriate to include roses in the bouquet I’m giving you,
“Mr. York,” she said.
“My sister-in-law previously bought a bouquet of roses from you and gave it to my brother, who proudly showed it off in front of me.”
“Are you asking me for a bouquet of roses to show off as well?” Callum replied, his tone inquisitive. “Is that too much to ask?”
Camryn was his chosen wife, and it was nearly certain they would marry. Displaying a bouquet given by her in public could even deter her rivals indirectly.
As a young master of the York family, Callum had many admirers, yet he always ignored them, just as his brother did. He neither accepted nor made promises, maintaining his moral integrity.
Their nana had advised them against toying with girls’ feelings if they did not intend to marry them. Thus, the York brothers were particularly cautious when it came to matters of the heart.
“If you want to be affectionate, you can buy a bouquet of roses from me to show off at work after you find a girlfriend or wife,” Camryn suggested.
Callum smiled. “I admit my request was a lot. You can design the bouquet however you like, Ms. Newman, but please avoid flowers suited for graves.”
Camryn was left speechless.
She then went on to create a bouquet based on her vision and handed it to him after wrapping it.
Callum had never given flowers to a girl before and was unfamiliar with the language of flowers. He only knew that roses represented love.
