Married at First Sight Chapter 1179

Chapter 1179
The duo must have just returned from a shopping trip. Lily held onto Mrs. Lewis’s arm while juggling several shopping bags.
“Are you heading out, Duncan?”
Mrs. Lewis inquired upon encountering her son.
“Mom. Ms. Harmon.”
Duncan greeted them before adding, “I have an emergency, Mom. Sorry, but I can’t attend to you and Ms. Harmon right now. Would you prefer to wait in my office or head home for the time being?”
“What’s the emergency?” Mrs. Lewis asked, clearly concerned.
“It’s an emergency.”
Duncan might not always be the sharpest, but he wasn’t going to reveal to his mother that he was skipping work to check on Sonny.
He feared that his mom might misinterpret his relationship with Liberty.
Many people had misunderstood the situation, believing that Duncan had feelings for Liberty.
When he expressed his fondness for Sonny, no one took him seriously; they assumed he was trying to win Sonny’s approval to become his stepdad.
“Is it work-related?” Mrs. Lewis pressed.
Duncan lied, “Yes, Mom. I really have to go.”
“Alright then, off you go. Be sure to come home for dinner. Lily picked out some clothes for you; you can try them on when you return. If you skip dinner tonight, I’ll send Lily to deliver food to you starting tomorrow.”
Mrs. Lewis knew her son well.
Duncan had no romantic interest in Lily, and he certainly didn’t enjoy her daily nagging. Mrs. Lewis had to threaten him to ensure he would come home for dinner.
“Also, stop spending the night at Zachary’s place. He’s a newlywed and wants to enjoy time with his wife. Your presence makes you a third wheel. Don’t you have a home? Why do you insist on staying at Zachary’s?”
“You need to move back home tonight.”
Duncan replied, “Zachary and Serenity have been married for six months. They’re past the newlywed stage.”

“Phase.”

“They’re intimate, so every day feels like a honeymoon to them. Do you have a problem with that?”

Duncan was left speechless.

“I’ll talk to Zachary if you don’t move back. Our home could use a makeover anyway. Since we don’t have a place to stay, we can stay at his house. I’ll go wherever you go.”

Duncan remained speechless.

His mother was always true to her word.

Lily stayed quiet, knowing it wasn’t her place to intervene while Mrs. Lewis pressured Duncan to return home.

Mrs. Lewis was doing this to give her a chance to bond with Duncan.

“Fine, Mom. I’ll be home for dinner,” Duncan finally conceded. “I need to go, Mom.”

“Go on,” she replied.

With her threat taking effect, Mrs. Lewis waved her arm generously, allowing her son to attend to his business.

Duncan stepped into the elevator.

Outside the lift, Mrs. Lewis and Lily watched as Duncan entered and the doors closed behind him.

Mrs. Lewis then took strides ahead, with Lily following closely behind.

Mrs. Lewis approached Duncan’s secretary to inquire about the nature of his emergency.

The secretary replied, “Mr. Lewis rushed out after receiving a call. I believe something has gone wrong with the XX project, which is currently our most important project. Mr. Lewis personally oversees it.”

“Oh,” Mrs. Lewis remarked.

Lily asked, “You’re Duncan’s secretary. Why didn’t you go with him?”

The secretary answered, “My colleague, another secretary, is waiting for Mr. Lewis there. She handles the project alongside him, so I wouldn’t be much help even if I went.”

Lily responded, “Oh, so Duncan has two secretaries?”
