Hank said, “Now.”
“Even if we do spend money, it’s Hank’s, not yours. You’re spending my son’s money, you know.” Mrs. Brown couldn’t get over the fact that her son had handed the financial reins to Jessica.
“Hank and I are married. His money is my money.”
“Then your money should also be Hank’s. Why didn’t you contribute to the home renovation? You were earning a high income when you were working. I bet your money went to your mom.”
“That’s none of your business. I can give my money to anyone and spend it however I choose.”
“Spendthrift!”
As the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law bickered, Hank cried out in distress, “Cut it out, Jessica. That’s my mom. You don’t always have to win. Stop fighting. We’re going on a trip; we’re supposed to have some fun.”
Hurt, Jessica replied, “Babe, you’re siding with your mom, but it’s her fault. Can’t we just go on our family trip? Why do we have to involve your sister’s family? Your sister always takes advantage of you. I bet we’ll end up covering her expenses today.”
“How much can the tickets cost? Just let it go.”
Hank was annoyed.
Jessica pouted and fell silent.
She sulked, looking out the window and refusing to engage further with her in-laws.
By the time everyone arrived at the zoo and parked, Jessica still wore a sour expression. She tucked her purse under her arm while getting the entrance tickets, forcing Hank to pay for his sister’s family.
They could forget about getting any money from her.
In contrast to the Browns, Serenity’s group encountered no issues.
They purchased their tickets and brought Sonny in.
Sonny was ecstatic. As soon as he entered the zoo, he ran off with the other children, not needing his mother’s hand to hold.
The boy was amazed by
People were riding by in horse-drawn carriages. “Don’t run off so fast, Sonny. Stay close to your mom and aunts,” Serenity cautioned.
As she caught up to her nephew, Serenity gently pulled him back and said, “There are many people here. You’re just a small boy, and it’s easy to get lost in the crowd. Won’t you be scared if you can’t see your mom and aunts?”
However, Sonny was too excited to absorb his aunt’s words. His eyes fixated on a nearby children’s playground, and he exclaimed, “Aunt Ser, I want to go there!”
With that, he slipped from Serenity’s grasp and dashed ahead.
