Chapter 1162
“Married men have a different perspective. You may cook for yourself, but I cook for both my wife and me. There’s immense joy in watching her enjoy my food—it’s a happiness that those of you who are single simply won’t comprehend.”
“Even a fine lobster pales in comparison to a meal shared with my wife. The simplest dishes taste incredible when I’m enjoying them together with her. It’s simply incomparable.”
Duncan responded, “That’s an interesting take on men who cook. Are you suggesting that those who have never cooked won’t find happiness? I may not cook like you do, but I can certainly find a wife who does. The outcome is still the same.”
Zachary retorted, “Are you seeking a wife or just a cook?”
Duncan, taken aback, shifted the conversation. “Make me one too.”
“Do it yourself. You should practice and gain experience. I assure you, your future wife will appreciate it if you cook her a steak. It’s a way of romancing her.”
Duncan pouted. “Zachary, I’m a guest in your home.”
“An uninvited guest who refuses to leave isn’t really a guest. If you’d prefer not to cook, you can ask the chefs. They’ll start on your breakfast as soon as I’m finished.”
While Zachary occupied the kitchen, the chefs were chatting with the gardeners outside.
“Fine, fine. I’ll handle it myself. Do you think I can’t cook? I’ve learned quite a bit from my experiences out there,” Duncan replied.
Duncan had started from humble beginnings on the other side of the law, where it was common for henchmen to take on kitchen duties for the boss.
After preparing a delicious and nutritious breakfast for his wife, Zachary went to the garden and cut a bouquet of blooming roses. He trimmed the stems and arranged the red roses beautifully.
He placed the bouquet on Serenity’s seat before heading upstairs to wake her.
Observing everything Zachary did,
For Serenity, Duncan discreetly took a photo and sent it to their mutual best friend, Josh, along with the message: [Take notes, boy.]
Josh quickly replied: [Shouldn’t you be the one watching and learning? I’m a natural at romance. Zachary is taking notes from me. I’m his love guru.]
Duncan grinned. “Oh, right. Josh has the highest EQ.”
Josh and Jasmine’s romantic life had been smooth sailing without any turbulence.
“Duncan, why are you at Zachary’s place?” Josh sent a voice note.
“I’m here to take cover.”
Josh responded with a LOL emoji.
The pressure from Duncan’s mother to get married had compelled him to seek refuge at Zachary’s home.
Duncan was at a loss for words.
Slipping his phone back into his pocket, he began eating his steak.
Hmm… It tasted fine.
Duncan had no issue dining alone.
He couldn’t grasp the happiness Zachary spoke of. However, Zachary and his wife soon opened Duncan’s eyes to the joys of married life.
As Zachary and Serenity showcased their affection over breakfast, Duncan lost his appetite.
He envied Zachary’s steak as Serenity devoured her meal with enthusiasm.
From that moment on, Duncan resolved never to have breakfast with the couple again. They enjoyed a wonderful feast, while he was left with nothing but an unwelcome visual feast.
After breakfast, the couple strolled hand-in-hand.
Zachary used to rush to the office first thing in the morning.
Now, he took his time leaving.
Holding a mug of coffee, Duncan stood at the door, watching the young couple laugh and talk as they walked further away. For the first time, loneliness began to weigh on Duncan.
Should he consider entering the next big phase of his life?
