I turned down all their invitations, claiming I was busy. “However, my mom brought her to live in my villa. Being my mother, I can’t just kick them out. Since they refuse to leave, I decided to go,” Duncan lamented. He sounded upset, likely the most pressured man in the world when it comes to marriage. Unfortunately, it was his mother who was nagging him to settle down, and he felt powerless to confront her.
Lily, on the other hand, was quite bold. No matter how Duncan reacted, she happily spent time with his mother. In fact, Lily managed to win his mother over to the point where Duncan felt he had lost her favor. She seemed to hang on to Lily’s every word.
Duncan was aware that Lily was the vice president of Harmon Corporation, a strong woman in her own right. Although Harmon Corporation and Lewis & Co. weren’t located in the same city, he had gathered extensive information about the former due to his connection with Lily. His mother must have taken a liking to Lily not only because she was friends with Mrs. Harmon but also due to her interest in the Harmon family’s wealth and status.
“If you want Ms. Harmon to leave, it’s simple—just bring a woman home,” Duncan’s friend suggested. Duncan’s expression darkened. “Who can I bring back? You know I’m single. I’ve never met a woman I find attractive enough to marry and protect. Sometimes I think my future partner hasn’t even been born yet. Maybe I’ll have to wait another twenty years to meet her and end my life as a bachelor.”
Zachary and Serenity exchanged glances, speechless. “Zachary, I’ll just stay here for a few days. I can’t believe Lily will still be here after a few days,” Duncan declared boldly. “I can pay rent; think of it as me renting your place.”
Zachary frowned. “You even brought your luggage—what else can I say? You can stay as long as you want. Serenity and I will move back to Brynfield.”
“Tomorrow.”
