She moved all the delicious dishes to his side as well. Serenity was at a loss for words. She realized that once Zachary arrived, she would lose her sister’s favor. It felt as if she were merely a sister Liberty had picked up from the streets.
Just two minutes after they sat down, the doorbell rang again. Sonny went to answer it but had a clever idea. He placed a stool to reach the doorknob and instructed the adults not to follow him. Soon, they heard him call, “Granddad, Grandmom.”
It was Mr. and Mrs. Brown who had come to visit. Mr. Brown carried Sonny inside while Mrs. Brown held the stool he had used to boost his height. As they entered, she said to Liberty, “Liberty, how could you let Sonny open the door? He can’t even reach the doorknob yet! What if he falls while using the stool?”
Sonny was the only hope for the Brown family to continue their lineage.
“Did you just start eating?” Mrs. Brown noticed a large amount of seafood on the dining table. The prawns and crabs were enormous, with plenty of meat in the crab pincers. She was about to criticize Liberty for being impractical.
Only three or four people were dining, yet they had purchased so much seafood. Didn’t Liberty realize how expensive seafood was? The Brown family hadn’t enjoyed seafood for a long time. Whenever Chelsea visited, she would complain that she couldn’t indulge in seafood since her sister-in-law had changed.
Jessica harbored a strong dislike for Chelsea. Hank had allowed Jessica to manage their finances, and she resented the idea of buying seafood for her sister-in-law.
Jessica once told Hank, “Buying seafood for your sister just for her to criticize me and drive a wedge between us after she’s satisfied is utterly unrewarding. I won’t do it.”
As a result, Chelsea could never enjoy seafood like prawns and crabs when visiting her family—even clams.
They were out of the discussion. However, Mrs. Brown quickly retracted her words upon seeing Zachary. It made sense to prepare a generous meal since Mr. Zachary was also dining.
“What brings you here?” Liberty asked with an indifferent gaze, disliking her ex-husband’s family visiting so frequently.
“Liberty, we would like Sonny to spend some time at our place,” Mr. Brown stated their intentions right away, fully aware of Liberty’s disdain for them.
With their new daughter-in-law no longer preventing them from getting close to Sonny, Mr. and Mrs. Brown couldn’t wait any longer and went to find Liberty to pick Sonny up.
