Chapter 1103
Hank shot Jessica a sideways glance and joked, “Jessica, did the sun rise in the west today?”
“I went to Liberty’s diner early this morning to have breakfast and keep Sonny company. When I saw you, I was worried that you’d start an argument with me and embarrass me in front of Liberty. I didn’t expect you to let me bring Sonny home to stay for a few days.”
“You treated Lucas poorly, so I assumed you disliked children.”
Jessica had a strong dislike for Lucas ever since he damaged her cosmetics.
However, since he was Chelsea’s son, as long as Chelsea and Hank maintained their sibling bond, they would continue to visit each other.
Even though Jessica disliked the boy, her only option when Lucas came over was to lock their bedroom door to keep him out.
Lucas had a tendency to create chaos, and his grandparents were indifferent to it. They happily allowed the little brat to do as he pleased.
Jessica knew that Chelsea’s three children were raised by her in-laws, who treated their grandchildren better than they treated Sonny.
She refrained from commenting on her in-laws spoiling their grandchildren, but after Lucas left, her mother-in-law always instructed her to clean the house.
She refused.
If her mother-in-law disliked the mess, she could clean the house herself. Jessica didn’t care since it wasn’t her room that was untidy.
Eventually, due to Jessica’s refusal, it was her in-laws who ended up cleaning. After a few rounds of this, they experienced the hassle of tidying up and no longer allowed Lucas to create a mess during his visits.
What Jessica learned from countless confrontations with her in-laws was that she needed to be more stubborn than they were.
As long as she held Hank’s heart and kept him by her side, the victory was hers.
“I don’t hate children; I dislike spoiled brats. I have nothing against cute and sensible kids like Sonny. However, I can’t say I like him either since he’s Liberty’s son, and Liberty is my love rival,” she stated.
Hank replied, “She’s not your love rival anymore. We’re already divorced.”
“Neither of you intends to remarry, but your family won’t let go. They always praise Liberty while speaking poorly of me. Don’t think I’m unaware of it just because they do it behind my back. I know everything,” she retorted.
Hank quickly reassured her, “Jessica, we’re committed to spending our lives together. As long as our feelings remain strong, it doesn’t matter what my parents say. Their obsession with Liberty is because she has a wealthy aunt and her sister married a rich man.”
“If Liberty and her sister were still the same as before, I’m sure my mom would have flaunted our happiness to them. If Serenity hadn’t married Mr. York, we would still have our jobs and a high income. We have a house, cars, and savings. We are doing much better than others,” she lamented.
Jessica sighed, “It’s good that you’re aware of this. I worry you might change your mind about me after hearing your mother’s remarks.”
“I won’t,” Hank assured her, contemplating his recent divorce and remarriage. He knew he couldn’t go through another divorce; the cost was too high.
“Sonny is still your flesh and blood, and he’s your parents’ grandson. If you bring him over for a few days now and then, the house will be livelier. Your parents will be happier too, and they might even criticize me less, leading to a more harmonious family dynamic,” he suggested.
