I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 83

Chapter 83

“We didn’t want to take on this kind of job again, but Mr. Mercer paid too much to be turned down. He said he was already connected to Mr. Howard. If we helped him just this once, he wouldn’t forget us after he made it. We’d get to live the good life along with him.”

Kingston let out a cold laugh. “How much did he pay you?”

“Three million.”

It was three million. They were jobless. They could sleep with a woman and get paid. There

was no reason for them to refuse.

And it wasn’t even their first time. They could just leave the country for a few months and

then come back.

Vivian’s hand at her side clenched so hard her knuckles went white.

Three million was the amount Zane had told her to bring.

He’d wanted to use her money to pay these men to rape her.

Logan was vicious to the core.

Vivian picked up the money bag by the door, carried it in, and tossed it in front of the man.

Kingston glanced at her, then signaled the bodyguard to let the man go.

The grip on him loosened. He slowly reached for the bag, disbelief in his eyes, and asked carefully, “So, what do you want us to do?”

Vivian said, “Get Zane to come out. Then, do to him what you planned to do to me.”

The man’s expression twisted. He gave an awkward smile. “My brothers and I… We’re not into

men.”

“If you’re not, someone will make you be,” Vivian said, her eyes cold. “Otherwise, you won’t live long enough to spend the money.”

The man’s face stiffened. He opened the bag, and his eyes went wide. Inside were nothing but

fake bills.

“Damn it!”

The second he realized he’d been played, he cursed. The next second, Kingston’s bodyguard

slammed him to the floor.

“Three years ago, did Zane ever tell you what kind of family the woman you raped came from?

The man was the most timid of the group. At her words, he shrank back. “What kind of family?

Vivian didn’t answer. She only looked toward the door.

The private room door swung open from the outside.

A middle–aged man in a silver suit stood in the doorway, cane in hand, a hat shadowing his face as the hallway light framed him.

He walked in on a carpet so soft he didn’t make a sound, but the men on the floor felt their hearts tighten.

When he stepped out of the shadowed entryway, the jagged scar on his face came into view.

Anyone born and raised in Baymoor had heard of Victor. They’d also heard the name Scarface.

Back in the day, he’d been called Baymoor’s Underworld King.

He wasn’t what he used to be, but he still had people under him who’d die for him when it

mattered.

Victor’s gaze swept past everyone and landed on Vivian.

Kingston felt the violence rolling off the man. Without a word, he caught Vivian by the wrist and pulled her to his side, shielding her.

Vivian turned and held Kingston’s wrist instead, a quiet signal for him to relax. Then, she greeted Victor first.

“Mr. Shaw, I think you heard what they just said. Since you came, you probably don’t plan to let the person who hurt Ms. Shaw walk away.”

Victor took off his hat and handed it to the man behind him.

“I have to thank you, Ms. Hartwell.”

If it hadn’t been for Vivian, they would never have known that the one who made Leah suffer had been right beside them all along.
