I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 78

Chapter 78

Sloane’s words clearly struck a nerve. Diana’s eyes had a flicker of hesitation and inner conflict. For the past few days, Vivian truly hadn’t given Diana a call even once. In what family was a son’s wedding not overseen by his parents?

Diana had worked herself to the bone raising Logan, yet she couldn’t even claim the basic authority a mother should have in her son’s household. After thinking about it carefully, she realized she really couldn’t continue letting Vivian trample over her like this.

“What’s your idea to deal with her?” Diana asked in a low voice with a ghastly expression, staring at Sloane.

With only two days left before Logan and Vivian’s wedding, Diana didn’t believe Sloane could

truly come up with something effective.

Sloane smiled faintly and leaned closer, whispering into Diana’s ear. “I don’t have a plan myself. It was one of Logan’s close friends who came up with it.

“This method wouldn’t just make Vivian unable to ever hold her head up in front of Logan. It

would also make her completely obedient to him.”

Diana’s eyes lit up instantly. She asked, “You mean, she would even be willing to give up the company and all its assets?”

Sloane nodded. “Of course.”

Still, Diana looked at Sloane skeptically, clearly unconvinced that any plan could be that effective. Covering her mouth with her hand, Sloane leaned in and quietly explained Zane’s

idea to Diana.

Sloane stated, “Logan probably still cares about his past with Vivian. That’s why he refuses to use this method on her.”

Diana hesitated. She had seen how deeply Logan felt about Vivian. If he ever found out that she had joined forces with others to scheme against Vivian and that it cost the latter her innocence, he would probably hate her for the rest of his life.

Sensing Diana’s hesitation, Sloane immediately pressed on. “This is the only way to get real leverage over Vivian. If my situation with Logan were ever discovered by her, she would definitely take half of his assets in a divorce. As his mother, shouldn’t you be the one guarding

the final line for him?”

Sloane knew exactly what Diana cared about most, so Sloane guided the conversation

carefully. “Besides, Logan’s feelings for Vivian have already been fading. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even be around.

“What he lacks is just an excuse. He needs a legitimate reason to firmly keep the company in his own hands. Are you truly willing to watch the company he worked so hard to build get split right down the middle?”

At last, Diana wavered completely.

There was only one day before the wedding. Vivian woke up early to double–check that every arrangement and plan for the next day was flawless. After confirming everything, she purchased a flight ticket to Durmont for the following afternoon.

She had endured the injustice for a full month, and now, everything was finally nearing its end. She couldn’t quite tell whether what she felt was excitement or sorrow.

Just as she was about to head out, she received a message from an unknown number. It read, I have six months‘ worth of illegal activities involving Whitfield Group. Ms. Hartwell, if you don’t want anything to happen to the company, bring three million dollars in cash to the Maplewood Club at 10:00 pm tonight. Come alone.”

Vivian frowned. She had reviewed Whitfield Group’s accounts before, and there hadn’t been any issues at all. Had Logan done something illegal behind her back?

Ever since he had fully taken control of Whitfield Group, he had been constantly flattered by those so–called friends of his. He might make decisions that could seriously harm the company after getting carried away.

Vivian had already sold all her shares in Whitfield Group to Kingston. So, whatever happened to Whitfield Group no longer had anything to do with her. However, the problem was that she had sold her shares to Kingston.
