I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 71
Chapter 71
As if every word physically hurt, Vivian’s face twisted in pain. “It was just a rear–end collision. Isn’t this a bit much?”
Theo leaned closer, thoughtfully stepping in to explain. “Ms. Hartwell, haven’t you ever heard of the parts–to–whole ratio for a Rolls–Royce?”
Vivian shook her head. To her, a car was nothing more than a means of transportation. She had never bothered to look into these things. “What does that even mean?”
Theo thought about it for a few seconds before answering, “It means a 1.5 million dollar heart, a 750 thousand dollar kidney, and a 2 million dollar worth of bone marrow come together to form someone like me, who makes just a few thousand a month.”
Vivian immediately understood, and her expression stiffened. If she remembered correctly, that day she had smashed the entire rear bumper of Kingston’s car.
Although she did have some savings now, that money was meant to be her startup capital when she returned to Durmont to reopen her company. Given the increasingly dire situation
of Hartwell Group, that amount was nowhere near enough.
Still, the accident had been her fault. She forced a bitter smile and said, “Mr. Howard, don’t
worry. After the insurance payout, no matter how much is left, I won’t dodge responsibility. I’ll pay every cent.”
Kingston nodded and replied, “Alright.”
After hearing this news from Kingston, Vivian completely lost her appetite. She only ate a
little afterward and didn’t touch the beer again. Meanwhile, Stella received a call and had to
return to the office on short notice.
When Vivian was standing by the roadside while trying to book a designated driver, Theo pulled the car up in front of her.
The rear window slid down, revealing Kingston’s handsome face. With dark eyes, he said, “Get
in.”
Vivian waved him off. “No need. I’ve already booked a driver.”
Kingston frowned and stated, “We were drinking at the same table. If something happens to you, I would still be responsible.”
Then, he opened the door and stepped out, gesturing for her to get
Chapter 71
Completely enveloped by Kingston’s shadow, Vivian felt a sense of pressure. Under his serious gaze, she could only steel herself and get into the car.
He had his eyes closed the entire ride. Meanwhile, weighed down by her thoughts, she didn’t say a word either.
Following Vivian’s directions, Theo stopped the car at the entrance of the valley. She then opened the door and got out. Before walking away, she turned back to look at Kingston and said softly, “Thank you, Mr. Howard. Sorry for the trouble.”
Kingston didn’t respond. He still had his eyes closed. Vivian pursed her lips before turning and walking into the alley.
It was only then that Kingston, in the back seat, opened his eyes. As he watched Vivian walk away, his expression darkened. Just as Theo was about to start the car again, Kingston ordered, “Stop.”
Confused, Theo asked, “What is it?”
Kingston lowered his gaze to the phone lying beside him. Theo instantly understood and said, “I’ll take it to Ms. Hartwell right away.”
As Theo spoke, he unbuckled his seatbelt and reached for the phone in the back seat. Before his hand could touch it, Kingston picked it up first.
Under Theo’s puzzled stare, Kingston opened the door and got out. He followed Vivian, who had already disappeared into the dark alley.
Vivian had just reached her door and was about to take out her keys when Logan stepped out from the shadows. He muttered, “Vivian, we need to talk.”
Vivian was startled. When she recognized who it was, her expression darkened. She stated, There’s nothing for us to talk about.”
Logan frowned and stepped forward, reaching for her wrist. Just then, Kingston’s voice sounded from behind. “Ms. Hartwell, your phone.”
