I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 70
Chapter 70
The atmosphere seemed to fall quiet suddenly. It felt as though everyone around them had turned to look their way. A chill ran down Vivian’s spine. It couldn’t be that much of a coincidence, right?
Vivian exchanged a glance with Stella. Stella looked back at Vivian. Then, the two turned to look behind them together, and there stood Kingston in a tailored, high–end suit. He stood behind them like a noble, his presence completely out of place in their surroundings.
“What a coincidence, Mr. Howard,” said Stella first, forcing a smile as she took the initiative to greet him.
Kingston’s gaze settled on Vivian, who looked visibly awkward. Indifferently, he replied, “It really is. I had just walked over when I heard someone speaking ill of me.”
Upon hearing that, Vivian wanted to dig a hole and bury herself. Stella also let out an awkward laugh and said, “Mr. Howard, you must have misheard. Ms. Hartwell was praising you just now. It was just a unique method of praise.”
Kingston raised a brow. “So, I should thank Ms. Hartwell for the compliment.”
Vivian shifted her gaze away, avoiding his eyes. With a diffident smile, she responded, “No need to be so polite.”
Theo had been parking the car earlier. When he came over, he happened to hear what Vivian said. He pulled out a chair across from Vivian and Stella before sitting down. Cheerfully, he said, “I’ll get comfortable then.”
Stella and Vivian fell silent again. After sitting down, Theo noticed that Kingston was still standing. He reached over and dragged out the chair next to him. He waved at Kingston and said, “Kingston, take a seat. I’m starving.”
With a straight face, Kingston took the seat beside Theo. The skewers that Stella and Vivian had ordered earlier were brought over by the vendor. Theo wasted no time and immediately picked up one to eat.
On the other hand, Kingston simply watched without moving. Stella quickly recovered from her daze and slipped naturally into her social mode. She said, “Mr. Howard, you should try some. This place is famous around here. The skewers are really good.”
Kingston frowned and didn’t reach for the skewer Stella offered. Left with no choice, she passed it to Vivian instead.

Vivian took the skewer and was about to bring it to her mouth when Stella japped her sharply with an elbow. Then, she reluctantly handed the untouched skewer to Kingston, who was sitting across from her. She asked, “Mr. Howard, do you want to try it?”
A man like Kingston, who had been raised with luxury since childhood, probably had very few chances to sit at a food truck eating skewers. He might not have gone to any food truck before. His refined palate was likely accustomed only to the finest, most nutritious ingredients.
“It won’t kill you,” said Vivian. At worst, Kingston would just have diarrhea.
Vivian picked up another skewer and took a bite. It was only then that Kingston took the skewer from her. He ate it slowly, tasting it properly.
The time it took Kingston to finish one skewer wasn’t even enough for Theo to finish five. Stella called the vendor over for a glass of beer and ordered more skewers.
Vivian wasn’t in a great mood. She sat quietly, drinking beer and eating skewers in silence. She only occasionally responded when Theo asked her something.
Theo soon noticed that Vivian wasn’t really in the mood to talk. Considerably, he shifted his attention to Stella instead.
Stella, of course, didn’t dare to brush Theo off the way Vivian did. He was someone close to Kingston. In fact, they were relatives. So, she answered every topic he brought up seriously.
When Vivian finished another glass of beer, Kingston, who was sitting across from her, finally spoke in a low voice. “The repair shop called me today. They said that your car insurance may not cover all of the repair costs. The remaining amount will need to be settled privately.”
Vivian slowly set her glass down in a daze. She blurted out, “My coverage is two million dollars!”
What kind of car needed repairs that cost over two million dollars, and that still wasn’t enough?
In an instant, she completely forgot about feeling upset over trivial relationship matters. Kingston stated, “Your insurance company should contact you tomorrow.”
