I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 67

Chapter 67

Kingston nodded but didn’t look at her.

Vivian stood and headed for the door. When she reached it, she paused and turned back to glance at Kingston, sitting in his office chair, completely absorbed in his work.

Morning sunlight slipped through the open floor–to–ceiling windows, landing across his long, elegant hands. His sapphire cufflinks caught the light, sparkling brilliantly.

Vivian pressed her lips together and softly said, “Mr. Howard…”

Kingston looked up at her. Warmth flickered in his gaze, but there was something in it that Vivian couldn’t read.

She couldn’t help but smile as she asked, “Did the system really play for you last night after you fell asleep?”

His warm gaze darkened at once. Vivian knew exactly what that meant, but she smiled to herself and walked away.

Why should he have all the fun laughing at her? She could poke fun at his poor gaming too. Better to get in a joke before he had the chance to tease her later.

Vivian walked out of the Howard Group office tower in a good mood.

As she made her way to her car, Logan stepped out of his vehicle and blocked her path. “Vivi, is it done? Let me see the contract.”

Without asking, he grabbed her bag and began rifling through it for the contract.

Vivian’s smile vanished in an instant. She had momentarily forgotten about this particular nuisance.

When Logan couldn’t find the contract, his frown deepened, and he glared at her. “Vivian, what’s going on?”

With a composed, cold look, Vivian reclaimed her bag. “Perhaps Mr. Howard felt your performance last night was so poor that he had to seriously rethink cooperating with

Whitfield Group.”

Anger flared in Logan’s eyes as his expression soured. ” So, you didn’t land the contract either? Then why are you acting so high and mighty in front of me?”

Vivian stared at his fuming, frustrated face with total indifference.

Logan’s chest heaved as he took a deep breath. “Forgive me, Vivian. I expected too much from this deal and couldn’t cope with even a small setback. Zane’s already made the news public. I was just trying to protect Whitfield Group’s reputation.”

Vivian gave a sarcastic smile. “Things aren’t even finalized yet, and you already have your so- called good friend broadcasting it everywhere? Logan, you’ve clearly been spoiled too much by them over the years.”

Logan tried to explain himself. “It’s just how Zane is…”

Vivian cut him off. “The higher you’re held up, the harder you’ll fall. Hope you can handle it when that time comes.”

Logan closed his eyes. “Don’t be upset. I’ll keep my distance from him and stop dealing with him entirely.”

“Doesn’t matter,” Vivian said as she opened the car door and slid inside.

She started the car and drove off. Logan didn’t follow up immediately, but after a while, she noticed his car tailing her.

Vivian rolled her eyes and sped up toward her townhouse. As soon as she got inside, she locked the front door, leaving Logan outside.

Logan banged on the door, fuming. “Vivian, the wedding’s just a few days away! There are still so many details we need to sort out. Can we sit down and talk?”

Vivian stood behind the door and calmly said, “I’ll coordinate the wedding details with the event planner. You just need to show up on time.”

Logan’s voice cracked slightly. “Vivian, are you really going to keep giving me the silent treatment?”

Vivian didn’t respond. She simply went inside.

Hearing her footsteps fade, Logan clenched his jaw. Maybe Zane’s idea could actually work. He had been too lenient with her, which had only encouraged her fiery temper.
