Chapter 59

Both Connor and Stella had seen firsthand how Logan would discard people once they’d outlived their usefulness, so neither was willing to step forward to flatter him.

Stella, in particular, found Logan utterly repulsive. She couldn’t bring herself to say a single word of congratulations.

Amid the chorus of praise from everyone, Logan gradually regained his confidence. He

released Vivian and went into the crowd, standing outside the restaurant and giving another long–winded speech.

Connor was the first one who couldn’t take it anymore. He excused himself politely. “Mr. Whitfield, my wife and kids are waiting for me at home, so I’ll head off first. All of you can take your time. Let’s meet another day.”

Logan raised an eyebrow and nodded. “Sure, family comes first.”

Connor turned around to leave.

Watching him leave, Logan added, “Connor, now that Howard Group has connected to us, they’re bound to make big moves in Baymoor. At a time like this, I don’t think any company would fuss over a bit of profit. Once you’ve thought it through, have your people prepare the renewal contract.”

Vivian had already discussed Howard Group’s interest in working with Edgewell Group with Connor. On top of that, Stella had let Connor know that Vivian had helped secure the Howard Group’s investment for her.

Connor had weathered the business world for so many years. There was no way he didn’t see what was going on.

Both he and Stella had experienced Logan’s disgusting behavior before, so they chose to remain silent.

By bringing this up in front of so many partners, Logan was also sending a message to the rest. Whitfield Group was no longer what it used to be, and anyone who wanted to keep working with Whitfield Group would have to make concessions.

No one spoke as they all stared at Connor, waiting to see how he would respond.

If Connor gave in, the others would likely approach Logan about renewals before their contracts expired as well.

Connor showed no sign of dissatisfaction on his face. He replied politely, “I’ll need to

and think about this.”

Logan stepped forward and draped an arm over Connor’s shoulder, completely disregarding the fact that Connor was more than ten years his senior and a veteran in the industry.

Logan said, “Connor, considering how many years we’ve worked together, I’ll give you three days to think it over. After three days, I’ll start looking for someone else. Don’t blame me for not giving you enough time.”

As he spoke, he patted Connor’s chest with the back of his hand.

Connor pressed his lips into a thin line, his jaw tightening as a hint of emotion finally showed.

The crowd tried to smooth things over, with some urging Connor to give ground, and others choosing to wait and watch.

Logan was thoroughly pleased by the flattery, and he laughed in a carefree manner.

Vivian remained silent the whole time, standing to one side and watching Logan’s arrogance grow.

Connor pushed past the crowd and came over to say goodbye to Vivian.

Vivian knew he had been exercising immense restraint today and apologized softly.

Connor glanced at Logan and said evenly, “The higher one stands, the harder the fall. Ms. Hartwell, maybe you should advise Mr. Whitfield.”

With a faint smile, Vivian replied quietly, “Why should I? What better way to give myself a warning than to watch him build towering buildings and host lavish banquets, only to end up with nothing?”

The moment she finished speaking, Connor felt the doubts in his heart answered with absolute clarity.

After years of working together, Vivian knew Connor’s character well.

Logan had humiliated Connor in front of everyone despite being much younger. Regardless of whether Whitfield Group would cooperate with Howard Group in the future, Connor would never work with the Whitfield Group again.

Vivian might be leaving the Whitefield Group and Baymoor, but these connections were ones she needed to maintain.

Once she returned to Durtmond, she would discuss establishing a new department with Camille.

With these connections in hand, getting started would inevitably be far easier than when she’d built Whitfield Group up in the past.
