I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up 56
Chapter 56
Logan was clearly trying to assert his status in front of everyone.
In the past, Vivian would definitely have given in in situations like this.
But back then, he hadn’t cheated. His feelings never wandered.
She couldn’t bear to see him suffer the burning pain alcohol caused in his stomach, so she would look after him with meticulous care.
But now…
Logan still wanted to enjoy that kind of treatment?
In his dreams.
Vivian shot him a sideways glance and didn’t move.
The waiter stepped in at just the right moment, attentively setting a bowl of soup in front of him.
Logan breathed heavily, forcing himself to swallow his frustrations under everyone’s subtly probing gazes.
Today was an important occasion.
Everyone present was a key client or long–term partner of Whitfield Group.
By the time dinner drew to a close, Logan was already somewhat drunk.
In front of Kingston, he bragged loudly about Whitfield Group’s prospects and future. He even declared that Kingston would regret it if he didn’t cooperate with Whitfield Group.
His arrogance and self–importance were laid bare under the influence of alcohol.
Kingston had also drunk quite a bit, yet he sat steady in his chair. His expression was calm and composed, and he seemed to maintain complete clarity. It was hard for anyone to tell how much he’d actually had.
Seeing the stark contrast between the two, Vivian was suddenly reminded of her grandfather.
The stern and dignified man had once praised Kingston in front of her. He said that among this generation of young people, Kingston was the most steady and reliable he had ever seen.
He’d even said that back in his own youth, he might not have been as composed as Kingston.

Though at the time, Vivian had never formally met Kingston before, she’d heard far too many good things about him.
With someone like that, even being associated with him, let alone being with him, meant bearing immense pressure.
Which was why Vivian had never understood why she was the one who had become engaged to Kingston when Camille was clearly more suited to Kingston.
Camille, like Kingston, had been groomed as an heir by their elders. They were both outstanding talents, as well as classmates who knew each other well.
Camille was far more compatible with him than she was.
While Vivian was lost in thought, an arm suddenly wrapped around her.
Logan slung his arm over her shoulders, leaning his whole head toward her. “Vivi, I’m drunk.
It’s about time to wrap things up. Come on, let’s go home.”
Vivian lifted her hand to push him away, but all eyes at the table were already on them.
She slowly lowered her raised hand.
Eight days from now, she still had a big show to put on.
She couldn’t afford to let anyone sense anything amiss, let alone let Logan catch on.
Among everyone present, Stella knew best about the issues between Vivian and Logan.
As a woman herself, she could clearly see how much Vivian was holding back.
Stella decided to stand up and make the closing remarks for the evening.
“It’s been a great honor to dine with all of you tonight, and a special thank you to Mr. Howard for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us.
“We owe a great deal to Mr. Howard for our project being able to resume smoothly. This partnership is only the beginning. I believe we’ll have more and more opportunities to work together in the future. Let me raise a glass to you, and to everyone here.”
Everyone courteously lifted their glasses, and Kingston did as well.
Logan, however, leaned back in his chair. His right arm was draped casually over the back of Vivian’s seat, and he had a lazy, arrogant demeanor. “Ms. Scott, shouldn’t the person you’re most grateful to be me?”
The room fell silent.
Vivian didn’t stop him, simply rising from her seat instead. She lifted her glass and clinked it with the others. “To a smooth and prosperous future for us all.”
