Sloane’s expression paled, but she still rubbed her cheek gently against Logan’s palm. “How could I ever compare myself to Vivian? I know she can be spoiled and arrogant in front of you, but I can’t. I can never compare myself to her, or compete with her.”
Logan was very satisfied with Sloane’s response. He lifted his hand and gently ruffled her hair.
Seeing how completely obedient Sloane was toward Logan, and then thinking of Vivian’s stubborn, aggressive nature, Diana felt even more displeased with Vivian.
Diana said, “If you ask me, you shouldn’t even go through with this marriage to Vivian. Sloane’s already pregnant. You and Sloane should just do things properly and get married because of the baby.”
Deep down, Diana still believed that the child in Sloane’s belly could only be a legitimate grandchild of hers if Sloane married Logan.
Logan’s mood, which had just improved slightly, sank instantly. “Mom, I’m marrying Vivian. That’s a fact that will not change.”
Diana’s expression stiffened and darkened.
Sloane lowered her gaze and tactfully stood up beside Logan, saying softly, “Logan, you haven’t had breakfast yet, right? I’ll go make something for you.”
Logan nodded slightly.
The moment Diana saw Sloane head into the kitchen, she immediately sat down on the couch where Logan was lying.
She lowered her voice and said, “Sloane’s already pregnant. Are you really not going to give her a proper status? What kind of spell did Vivian even put on you? You’re going to let your own child remain unacknowledged just to marry her?”
Logan felt weak all over from his high fever. He rubbed his brow in irritation and replied impatiently, “I’ll keep Sloane and the child outside. I won’t shortchange them in any way, whether materially or in their daily life.
“If you like Sloane and the child, you can visit them anytime. But don’t let that turn into resentment or dissatisfaction toward Vivian.”
Diana had spent her entire life in the family’s village and held fairly conservative views. After Logan’s father passed away, she chose not to remarry for the sake of her reputation and devoted herself to raising Logan.

So, what Logan said was something she couldn’t process properly.
She clenched her teeth and argued, “So, you’re saying you’ll let Sloane be with you without any name or status? And what about the child? Do you think Vivian would be willing to accept a child to whom another woman gave birth?”
Logan frowned, and the irritation on his face was obvious.
Vivian would never accept a child that Sloane gave birth to.
And his relationship with Sloane was something that Vivian absolutely couldn’t find out about.
He said, “Mom, Vivian and I have been together for so many years. We have deep feelings for each other. She wouldn’t tolerate anything wrong in our relationship. She doesn’t know about Sloane at all, and you’re not to talk about this in front of her.”
Diana wasn’t happy. “You might be afraid of her, but I’m not. You’ve been together for so many years, yet Vivian still hasn’t given you a child. She’s just hogging the spot without doing anything. She should give it up to someone else.”
Logan was displeased by her crude wording.
What was he, then?
Someone to just be used up and passed around?
“If you keep being this dissatisfied with Vivian, I’ll just send you back to the countryside.” Logan’s voice was sharp with anger as he finally lost his temper.
Diana was still wary of him, so she didn’t argue any further. She merely stood up angrily from the couch and stormed into the kitchen, her face sullen.
Inside the kitchen, Sloane had heard every ward of the conversation between Logan and Diana clearly.
She had thought that using the child to hold onto Logan these past few days might at least raise her standing in his heart a little.
But she hadn’t expected that, in the end, she still could not surpass Vivian.
