Chapter 26
Logan hung up the phone and stepped into the house. Seeing Vivian busy in the living room, he spoke in a low voice. “Something came up at the company that I need to deal with.”
She didn’t even look up and continued with her work.
His brow furrowed slightly. Being ignored like this grated on him, but he still patiently said, I’ll come visit Eleanor another time. You should spend more time with her.”
This time, Vivian finally lifted her gaze. There was a sharp glint of mockery in her eyes. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something, but her words were trapped behind a veil of
sarcasm.

In the end, she only let out a dry laugh. Clutching the clothes in her arms, she turned sharply and strode into the bedroom.
Logan frowned, stung by her expression of utter disappointment. He glanced at Eleanor’s tightly closed bedroom door, hesitated for a moment, then walked over. Just as he was about to knock, his phone rang again.
“I’ll be right there.”
He answered the call and left without another word.
Sloane had slipped in the bathroom while showering. When Logan arrived at the hospital, she was sitting quietly in the hallway.
The moment she saw him, her pale face crumpled. Through a blur of tears, she reached out, her arms open in a silent plea for him to hold her.
Logan walked over and wrapped her in his embrace, gently rubbing her back.
“How could you be so careless? What did the doctor say?” he asked.
Sloane bit her lip, looking pitiful and aggrieved.
“The doctor said it’s nothing serious. It’s my fault that I wasn’t watching where I was stepping and just slipped. Thank goodness our baby is okay.”
“Good to hear that you’re alright,” he murmured, though his expression betrayed that he wasn’t entirely at ease.
Still, Logan accompanied Sloane to see the doctor personally, wanting to make sure he understood the situation firsthand.

The doctor went through a list of precautions in detail. He then specifically emphasized that during the first three months of pregnancy, strenuous activity should be avoided, and sexual activity should be abstained from.
Logan’s expression remained calm, showing no outward reaction. However, Sloane flushed deeply and leaned into his arms, seeking comfort.
After the doctor prescribed some folic acid and micronutrient supplements for her, Logan
took her home.
Throughout the drive, he maintained the same detached demeanor. Sloane couldn’t sense any real concern from him, and it left her feeling hurt and neglected.
After walking her inside the house, he stood at the doorway and said in a low voice, “I’ll
for a caretaker to look after
arrange
you
tomorrow.
She clutched his waist tightly, her eyes filled with a look that begged him not to leave her
alone.
“Logan, my ankle still hurts. Can’t you stay with me tonight?”
Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, silently pleading for him not to leave.
Logan lifted his hand and ruffled her hair, but his expression remained calm and unwavering.” Be good. I have to go back tonight.”
Sloane’s eyes immediately reddened. “Did Vivian tell you to go back?”
Logan said nothing.
Sloane, realizing she wouldn’t get an answer, reluctantly released her grip, forcing herself to appear composed. “Fine. Go ahead. I can manage on my own.‘
With that, she turned her back to him.
The embrace she had imagined never came. Instead, she only heard the steady echo of his footsteps as he left. She spun around abruptly, catching only a glimpse of his hand closing the front door behind him.
