I Cancel the Engagement and Level Way Up Chapter 17

Chapter 17

When his teammates voted to surrender, Kingston didn’t even respond.

For a brief moment, the room was silent.

After rejecting the surrender, he glanced at Vivian standing at the door. His voice was low and

serious. “Come in.”

Kingston walked further into the room, still gripping his phone as if he couldn’t bear to put it down. Settling onto the couch, his face tense and shadowed with frustration, as if he had just lost a major deal.

His character respawned, and he charged forward again with renewed confidence. But within seconds, the screen dimmed again.

This time, the enemy pushed straight to their base tower. Instead of finishing the match, they lingered outside, spamming recall and taunting him.

Kingston’s irritation was plain to see. Another team wipe followed, and each death added to his growing frustration.

Vivian glanced away awkwardly. But when his character respawned again, she couldn’t resist watching, quietly criticizing him. His awareness was decent, but his execution left much to be desired.

The enemy continued to taunt, deliberately stalling instead of ending the game. Watching it unfold, her patience thinned.

After yet another death, Kingston looked up sharply. His gaze collided with Vivian’s, full of exasperation and something like silent reproach.

She blinked at him. After a moment’s hesitation, she finally spoke up. “Want me to give it a try?”

“You’re good at this?” he asked.

Vivian pressed her lips together. Years ago, she had been obsessed with this game, climbing the regional ranks with multiple heroes.

But Logan had never been a fan of gaming, dismissing it as a waste of time. Under his

influence, she had gradually stopped.

Judging by the enemy team’s mistakes, she guessed Kingston’s rank wasn’t particularly high. Even after a long hiatus, a match like this didn’t intimidate her.

“I’ve got this,” she said confidently.

Kingston handed her the phone, looking skeptical.

Vivian’s hands wrapped around it just as his character respawned near the fountain. Her fingers moved over the screen with practiced precision. The character barely left the spawn point before the enemy destroyed their nexus.

She stared at the bold “Defeat” that flashed across the screen and tugged the corner of her mouth into a small smirk. All that effort and no battlefield to show for it.

Kingston said nothing, just watched from the couch, unreadable as ever.

Vivian looked

After a few seconds of silence, she tried to defend herself. “This isn’t my fault.”

Kingston nodded slightly, his tone flat. “Right. Even if the game ended while you were in control, it’s not your fault.”

She was rendered speechless. His words didn’t sound like an accusation, yet each one landed like a quiet rebuke, leaving her face burning with humiliation.
