Chapter 5

On the day of the Pennington Group launch event, my design was displayed prominently on the large screen.

Ophelia stood on the stage, calmly answering questions from reporters.

A sneer touched my lips as I watched her and Dominic.

The host asked, “Ms. Caldwell, this design is truly remarkable. Could you share the inspiration behind your creative concept?”

Ophelia, holding Dominic’s arm, smiled graciously.

“The inspiration comes from my love for Nick. I wanted to create a symbol of the warm home we are building together.

I had blended into the crowd of journalists, a baseball cap pulled low. I raised my hand.

“Ms. Caldwell, since this is your orig creation?

“Where was the original design first conceived?”

Ophelia faltered.

The question was basic yet pointedly specific.

Having no part in the actual creation, she could only offer a vague reply. “Approximately six months ago, I created it in my study.”

“Six months ago?” I allowed a slight smile.

“Yet the stylistic elements align more closely with trends from three years prior. Are you certain this is a recent piece?”

Ophelia’s smile froze. She shot a panicked look at Dominic.

He narrowed his eyes, studying me with a flicker of recognition.

But with my sunglasses and mask, he dismissed it, assuming I was merely a difficult reporter.

“The purpose

of today is the project launch. Let’s keep questions relevant to the theme,” Dominic stated coolly, taking the microphone.

“Security, please escort this troublemaker out.”

Two security guards in dark suits immediately moved toward me.

“No need. I’ll leave after I’ve asked my questions.”

I removed my sunglasses and mask.

Dominic nearly dropped the microphone, his eyes widening in shock. “Magnolia?!”

Ophelia paled visibly. “You… What are you doing here?”

The reporters were momentarily puzzled, assuming I was a journalist planted by the family for the

event.

My open challenge caught them off guard.

I fixed my gaze on Ophelia, pressing forward with my questions. “Ophelia, if this is your design, explain the three primary gradients used in the tonal hierarchy.

“What was the reason behind orienting the master bedroom fifteen degrees west?”

Beads of sweat formed on Ophelia’s forehead. She couldn’t utter a single word in response.

The journalists caught on. A wave of skeptical murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“Why isn’t Ms. Caldwell answering?”

“She can’t even answer the most basic questions. Did someone else do the work for her?”

་

“Is there a possibility of plagiarism in the Pennington Group’s flagship design?”

Ophelia panicked, but admitting to plagiarism was not an option.

In desperation, she pointed a trembling finger at me and raised her voice. “Don’t listen to her! She’s not a reporter! She’s the woman who seduced my husband!”

The reporters were stunned by this dramatic turn.

Seeing she had their attention, Ophelia cried out, “That woman is Magnolia Sherwood! My husband’s company paid for her education.

“I felt sorry for her and even found her a job.
