From Betrayed Wife to Heartless CEO Novel Chapter 8

Royal Blood in Exile by Mark Twain 8

Chapter 8

The nearby guests were drawn to the commotion. They stood frozen in silence, not daring to make a sound.

Dad’s friend was hosting this banquet. Seeing what happened, he immediately broke out in a cold sweat.

Of course, he wouldn’t ask Dad to apologize, but he didn’t want trouble breaking out at his event either. He politely introduced himself to Owen and suggested they reconcile.

Seeing this, Owen assumed the host was taking his side and became even more imperious.

“This man is trying to steal my girlfriend, and he even threatened violence! Throw him out!” Owen shouted wildly.

Right then, two security guards approached. Lila immediately ordered them to throw Dad out.

The guards ignored her completely. Instead, each grabbed one of Owen’s arms and hauled him out.

He protested loudly, shouting and struggling. Finally, he turned to me for help.

“Charlotte, help me! I only acted that way because of you just now. You saw it yourself. It clearly wasn’t my fault.”

Sure enough, Lila spoke up, pointing at Dad and demanding of the host, “He’s the one who started it. Why aren’t you making him leave?”

The host looked at her with pity. “Because he’s Mr. Lloyd.”

At those words, Owen’s pupils contracted sharply. There was only one Lloyd at this banquet. The very man Owen had been hoping to meet.

Lila fell silent. Owen went quiet too. His legs gave out. He stumbled backward several steps, nearly crashing into the champagne tower behind him.

“Are you alright?”

Mom supported Dad, then shot me a glare. Knowing I was at fault, I obediently bowed my head in apology.

“I’m sorry, Dad. Mom.”

“Dad?” Owen’s eyes widened as he stared at me.

“What did you just say? Dad? Mom?”

Without waiting for my answer, he pointed at me and laughed. “That’s impossible! Your last name is Shaw. His is Lloyd. How could they possibly be your parents?

“Charlotte, stop trying to fool me.”

Halfway through his laughter, he realized I hadn’t said anything. Everything had gone silent. He started to panic. “I was considering helping your company as a favor to my daughter. But since you’ve escalated things to this point and said such offensive things, I don’t think there’s any need to discuss company investment with you

anymore.

“You’ve committed tax evasion and have financial irregularities. I’ve already reported this matter. If I’m not mistaken, the police should be arriving shortly.

“Young man, I told you before. Think carefully before you speak.”

I stood to the side without saying a word, knowing that one Dad made a decision, I couldn’t intervene.

Owen completely panicked. He dropped to his knees, begging me to let him go.

But how could I? Letting him go would be like stabbing myself in the back, wouldn’t it?

As sirens grew closer, I knew Owen’s path had ended here. He was already dead.

He’d died on one of those nights when greed consumed his heart.
