In the morning, when Scarlet came downstairs, William and Julian were already seated at the dining table.
It was a long table, and when the elders were around, the seats were always fixed.
William and Julian sat opposite each other.
Scarlet had no choice but to sit next to William, no matter how much she wanted to avoid him. Hence, she walked over and took her place beside William..
The latter glanced at her and let out a short, amused chuckle.
Julian looked at him. “What’s with that cold laugh so early in the morning?”
William lifted the cup of coffee in his hand. “Well, teach me how to do a warm one instead.”

Scarlet knew exactly the hidden meaning behind William’s cold laugh. She turned away. “I’ll call Emily.”
After a while, Arthur and Justine came in and took their seats.
Scarlet helped Emily sit in the main seat before returning to sit beside William.
While they were eating, Ellen appeared from one of the guest rooms on the first floor.
Emily was curious. “Did we have guests over last night?”
Ellen, looking a little uneasy, replied, “Mr. Cooper slept here last night.”
Everyone at the table froze for a moment.
Emily shot a look at William and Scarlet. “Why on earth did you sleep in the guest room?”
Scarlet didn’t know how to answer.
William, on the other hand, casually replied, “I got back late and didn’t want to disturb her.”
He then picked up a piece of food for Scarlet in front of everyone. His lips curved into an affectionate smile, and his voice was cloyingly tender. “Sweetheart, have some more.”
Scarlet glanced at the garlic in the dish. “Thank you.”
Perhaps Arthur thought William was overdoing it. He cleared his throat. “Alright. Let’s eat.”
After breakfast, Scarlet said, “Emily, how about I take you to the hospital for another checkup? Dr. Tucker just returned to Lebavia last week. I can make an appointment and see if he can do anything.”
Lachlan Tucker was the country’s top authority on stomach cancer and had performed Emily’s surgery before.
Ellen appeared nervous upon hearing that.
Emily definitely couldn’t go through with the checkup, or it would all be exposed.
Meanwhile, Emily remained calm. “Scarlet, Dr. Tucker knows my condition better than anyone. If there was anything to be done, it would have already been done. My body can’t handle all that fuss. Going to the hospital would just be torture.”
Hearing that, Scarlet couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears streamed down her face, and she hurriedly covered her eyes with her

Scarlet felt a pang in her heart. “Then I’ll take the day off today and stay home with you.”

“You have hands that save lives. There are so many patients waiting at the hospital. You can come back to see me after work,” Emily said.
“I’ll be back as soon as I finish work. If you feel unwell, you must tell me,” Scarlet replied.
“Go on.” Emily then turned to William. “Take Scarlet to work. It’s freezing outside. Don’t let her get cold.”
She even personally saw Scarlet to the door, watching her get into William’s car and standing there until it drove off.
Once the car left the driveway and out of Emily’s sight, there was no reason for Scarlet to pretend anymore. She said, “Just drop me off here.”
William gave her a sideways glance, and a mocking smirk played on his lips. “What? You want to sit in Julian’s car?”
Julian left just after them, and his car followed close behind.
Scarlet had no energy to argue with him. “Mm. His car is better than yours.”
William’s face darkened instantly. He chuckled and said to Lester, “Lock the doors. You want to ride in his car? Forget it.” Scarlet thought he was childish and turned her gaze to the window.
