End of the Contract,Start of His Obsession Chapter 72

“Ohhh!” The voice behind Clementine made her whip around instantly..

Xyla had clearly been eavesdropping for a while. With the expression of someone who had just uncovered a major scandal, she shouted, “I always thought this was a proper public hospital. Who knew it was this shady? So the director’s niece gets to jump the line for promotions?”

Despite the news being an open secret within the department, it was still a secret. Letting outsiders hear it could spell serious trouble.

Clementine’s expression tightened as she hurried to explain. “Ms. Turner, you’ve misunderstood-”

“What did I misunderstand? Aren’t you the director’s distant niece?”

“I’m his cousin’s daughter, not his distant niece–I mean, no–ugh!” Clementine sputtered, her face flushing red.

“Whatever.” Xyla waved her off. “Either way, you’re still a distant relative.

“Well, my dad is George Turner, and I’m his daughter. By that logic, shouldn’t I be more qualified than some distant niece like you? Should I just come in here and grab a department head position? I’ve never studied medicine, and I don’t even know what glucose is. But I could always have my dad donate some money to the hospital.”

Xyla was shouting so loudly that people down the hallway overheard. Hearing the commotion from his office, Jeremy rushed

out.

“Our hospital absolutely does not tolerate favoritism or unethical practices. You can’t make baseless accusations like that,” he retorted.

“Baseless?” Xyla swung her leg lazily and continued, “How about I file a complaint with the Department of Health and Human Services and have them investigate? If I’m wrong, I’ll apologize and have my dad donate some new equipment.”

As she spoke, Xyla pulled out her phone. Jeremy swiftly snatched it from her hand.

She furrowed her brow and snarled, “What do you think you’re doing?”

Jeremy’s expression darkened. “Ms. Turner, I’ve shown you plenty of courtesy out of respect for your father. I have no personal grudge against you, so why are you threatening to report us? Do you have any idea how much trouble that would cause the hospital?”

“Give me my phone back!”

Jeremy didn’t take a young lady like Xyla seriously at all. He held the phone behind his back.

“Mr. Turner has partnered with this hospital for years. Do you really think he’d allow you to behave recklessly?”

Xyla’s temper flared. She shoved her wheelchair forward, trying to grab her phone back. However, confined to a wheelchair, she was no match for a grown man.

Clementine, naturally siding with Jeremy, stepped in and pushed Xyla away.

Xyla was anything but restrained. She grabbed a fistful of Clementine’s hair and hissed, “How dare you push me? Do you think I’m an easy target just because I’m in a wheelchair?”

Clementine bent forward in pain, her expression contorted as she shrieked and flailed her arms. “Let go of me! Let go!”

Jeremy froze for a split second, then barked at Scarlet, “Pull them apart!”

However, Scarlet couldn’t even find a safe way to intervene.

“Someone is recording this on their phone. If you don’t mind this ending up online, feel free to keep fighting,” Scarlet said.

As her words fell, Clementine went rigid. After all, she was a doctor. Not only would it shatter her image if she were filmed fighting a patient, but she’d also be torn apart online.

“Haha, scared now, aren’t you?” Xyla seized the moment to yank Clementine’s hair once more and even kicked her with her leg still wrapped in a cast. “I’ve got three million followers. I’m not afraid of going viral!”

Scarlet pressed a hand to her forehead in exasperation. “Xyla!”

Xyla let out a defiant snort and finally released her grip.

Seething, Clementine saw her chance and shoved Xyla hard while she wasn’t paying attention.

Xyla hadn’t anticipated such an underhanded move. Caught off guard, her wheelchair shot backward instantly. Screaming in panic, she fumbled clumsily with the joystick, only to make it speed even faster.

Scarlet rushed forward to stop it. However, she underestimated the combined weight of the electric wheelchair and Xyla. The momentum slammed into her knee, throwing her off balance and sending her stumbling backward several steps.

Just then, she bumped into something solid. An arm wrapped around her waist from behind, steadying her.

Heart still racing, Scarlet turned and caught sight of the sharp, defined line of William’s jaw.

With one hand gripping the wheelchair handle to stop it, he kept the other firm at Scarlet’s waist as he pulled her safely out

of the way.
