End of the Contract,Start of His Obsession Chapter 62

Scarlet had indeed been busy, leaving early and returning late every day.

“Is he coming back tonight?” she asked after finishing breakfast.

“I have no idea. Mr. Cooper’s been swamped with work, so I’m not sure. Why don’t you just give him a call?”

“I’ll try later.”

Scarlet had just finished an overnight shift and was exhausted. After breakfast, she told Ruth, “Take the day off.”

She went back to her room to catch up on sleep and didn’t wake until noon.

The house was unusually quiet. She moved slowly through the morning, carefully putting both cats into their carriers and taking them over to No. 12.

She handed them over personally to the elderly man who lived there, going over a few notes on how to care for them. Before leaving, she gave him her WhatsApp, telling him to reach out if anything came up with the cats.

Alfred Tacker was nothing like Ruth had described–supposedly cranky after years of living alone. As she turned to leave, he even invited her in. “Stay for a cup of tea. You won’t find tea like mine anywhere else.”

Scarlet smiled. “I’ll take you up on that another time.”

Back home, she gave William a call.

At that moment, he was heading toward the conference room, a group of executives in suits trailing behind him. His Lumerian master–crafted leather shoes tapped out a crisp, confident rhythm on the floor.

Noticing the call, he paused and gestured for the others to go on ahead. Then, he moved to the floor–to–ceiling window to

answer.

The evening sun streamed through the window, casting shadows across his relaxed features.

“So,” he drawled, “how does a busy woman like you suddenly have time to call me?”

“Do you have time tonight?” Scarlet asked.

“Tonight?”

He glanced at Chris, who was standing a few steps away. Chris immediately lowered his voice and went over William’s schedule for the day. “You have an evening meeting with Mr. MacGregor from the Private Fund Regulation at the Securities Commission…”

Before he could finish, William spoke into the phone. “I’m free tonight. What’s going on?”

Chris went quiet.

On the other end, Scarlet said, “We still haven’t properly discussed the divorce. Since you’re free today, let’s settle it once and for all.”

He shuddered at the phrase “settle it“.

“So, that’s why you suddenly care about my schedule. First your aunt, now me?” His lips twisted into a faint sneer. “So, are you a lawyer or the Grim Reaper, going around settling everyone?”

Scarlet was left speechless.

Lester had driven her to Laurel Heights, so it wasn’t surprising that William knew where she had gone. Lester was such a hypocrite. William’s schedule was off–limits to her, but her whereabouts could be shared freely.

“What time will you be back?” she asked.

William glanced at his watch. “I’ve got one more meeting. I should be home in an hour and a half.” “Alright,” she said. “I’ll wait for you.”
